Fuel pipe cover?

Is there any reason during the normal life of a bus to be able to access the fuel pipe cover from inside the bus? Or can I just cover it up with my insulation and wall and floor and forget about it? I've already repainted it as well as the floor underneath it, so corrosion shouldn't be a problem with it.

I've been putting a lot of thought into ways to keep it accessible and I'm hoping it's wasted mental effort. It would be a lot easier to just cover it over.

Sure would make it hard to drop the tank to replace the sensor unit etc.

yep cover it up and then need to replace the fuel sender or fix a coupling in a fuel line.. so tyou coukld either live ghetto without a fuel gauge or leave that little plate accessible.. and its not a matter of it but when your sender unit will break

I have a removable cover over the sending unit and I'm keeping that easily accessible, but I'm wondering if this cover on the side here ever needs to be gotten at easily. Even if I cover it over semi-permanently, I could always dig it out fairly easily since it will be inside my DIY human-litter box.

That is fine to remove as long as whatever you place there will not contact the filler neck. It's only there to keep the filler neck safe and secure. Removed ours on our shorty to place a cabinet there with no issues.

Thanks. I'm going to keep my cover there and build the toilet around it. I'm not going to bother making it easy to get to (the cover, that is - toilet should be easy to get to).

My fuel filler hose and vent hose were both dry cracking. I ordered new parts and just put them in. Having said that, In my case, I would not concern myself by hiding that angled cover seeing that the hoses will outlast my bus or I. The floor cutout where the fuel filler hose emerges was touching the hose so I took an adjustable wrench and used it to bend up the floor edge to keep it from cutting into the hose. That may help you too. Pull the cover off, inspect for chafing, cracking or loose clamps. If all is well, I would think it is good enough to cover it up in your build.

Ha ha, that pipe was right on the edge of my floor rebuild (in fact it limited how back the section could go). I spent weeks and weeks cleaning and painting all around it - I could probably get a police sketch artist to reproduce it exactly.

I went a little further than pulling the cover off, I guess.
