stuff... everybody is guilty of having "stuff"(I'll be 50 at end of October)
And I came to the conclusion about 3 years ago that I could walk away from anything that I own and not miss it, aside from "sentimental stuff".
I became an official empty nest bachelor Sunday July 11, 2015.
I kinda did a quick inventory of items I need to move this coming August, as I take my first step into minimalism.
11 glass plates
40 cups, mugs, glasses
10 forks
11 spoons
10 knives
2 kitchen knives
4 shallow bowls
4 deep bowls
and that doesn't even mention all the cookware I've collected... yada yada yada
I am one person, I need one coffee cup, 1 plate, 1 fork, 1 spoon, 1 knife....
everything is... well, just stuff!
one of the definitions of stuff, is "to fill a void"
I've got boxes in storage that I haven't unpacked in 2 years, haven't looked in for 3 years... I don't need it, and it would be easier to throw it in a dumpster without even opening. But, then that nagging feeling that there might be something in there that's sentimental! omg, what to do?!?!?!
I lived with a hoarding wife for 25 years, and since the divorce 6 years ago, I've learned what I can or cannot live without.... Basically coming to terms with "stuff"
Some of my Grandparent's belongings I cannot come to terms with getting rid of, I've gotten rid of some of it before and I've learned I don't miss it.... I've got a suitcase sized box of pictures of people that I don't have any idea who they are...Why??? Because it was Grandma's "stuff"
I've learned to surround myself with stuff that makes me feel comfortable, as in tools...
I've had a estranged relationship with my 31 year old son because of "stuff"... That stuff was my tools and my inherited Grandfather's tools that my ex-wife and son took from me. (haven't spoken to son in over 4 years, although I see him at my 17 year old son's games weekly)
You take a man's tools, and you remove his ability to create.... you'd just as well kill him. There are a lot of people that don't understand that! but, if you refuse to take a vehicle to a dealership and pay someone to fix it, when you're totally capable to fix it, or have the thirst for knowledge to learn how to fix it.... you need "stuff" to fix it with!
stuff is weird!
sorry, the bourbon got ahold of my keyboard
