I'm looking at buying a 2002 GMC savana G3500 24 person short bus with 86,500 miles on the 6.5l diesel engine. I would be purchasing it directly from the school district. It had recently passed inspection in February of this year and is being decommissioned due to age. The tires are good, the body is solid.

It's going for $7500.

I am slightly apprehensive because of all the negative things I've heard about the 6.5l diesel engine. Does anyone out there have any opinions/ solid advice?

Also, $7500 seems abit high, but the price is non negotiable and I have seen the same vehicle with over 150k miles go for upwards of $6000

I got my 07 Thomas 5 window based on a Chevy Express 3500 cutaway with the 6.6l duramax for $5K US.

24 passenger, is that 6 windows? Is it a Midbus?

It's a 5 window bus, like I said it's the 6.5l detroit diesel which if heard is inferior to the 6.6l duramax. It's also a 2002, I'm curious if theres anyone out there with Intel on the 2002 version of the 6.5l detroit diesel

I'm hoping to get something that will last ne the next 4+ years.

Also, where did you find your vehicle at?

google it.
i found info i didnt know about it and i have worked on a few? but am just learning the gooogle search stuff .
maitenance records a definite.
HEUI pump replacement and a few others i read/heard on you tube?

dont use the year model just look up the motor itself and you will get the history of them i live and work and was a marine and just rebuilt there diesel dyno machine for them this year to test that exact motor but it is a mechanics school for everything they own
