Looked all around on the net for various mechanical and electrical parts only
to find TRP Parts in my own back yard. Haven't tried them yet but their
catalog shows about everything you could possibly need. Even better than
Fleetpride.

I just drove from central WI to southern MI to visit two RV (and more) surplus yards. Both have tons of windows, compartment doors, ladders, folding steps, and a variety of other things at very reasonable prices. Madison Central Wholesale (Adrian, MI) also has acres of holding tanks, toy hauler ramp/doors, and random stuff. But the big score was at Tri-State Surplus (Hudson, MI) Tri State Surplus -- Discount RV, Camper, & Trailer Parts!, where windows were about $20 less (each) than at Madison Central, and where we picked up a refurbished refrigerator, oven/range, and water heater, as well as a new water pump, filters...a whole lot of stuff. And they take 10% off their on-line prices if you buy it in person. Caveat - they are currently only open on Saturdays! Ed and his family were very helpful and kind, and were excited about our project. I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for RV parts/accessories. And between the 10% reduction in cost for buying in person and saving ~$100 in shipping for each window (we bought 11), the cost savings of going there can pay for a several day road trip to get there and home again.

Found Colaw RV salvage in Carthage MO a good source for older RV parts. Just bought a low mileage transmission for a 90s Ford chassis for $700 outright, no core charge vs else where wanting $1500 for high miler.

Self tapping screws

With luck, my bus arrives today from the dealer. When it does, the project will officially get underway with the demolition portion of the build. With an eye on the rebuilding, where do you guys get the self tapping screws used to attach items to the ribs an exterior metal?

Is there a single listing of screw types, lengths, sources and best practices I can reference?

Any farm store (Charlie's) or home improvement store (Lowes, Home Depot) will have them in varying lengths/diameters. Length/diameter just depends on the specific use.

They do hold tight and are removable. As for duration, I have only had them in use in the bus for 3 years now. No problems at all.

I rarely use a self taper. On my bus all rivets removed got replaced with like sized #10 panhead Phillips head zinc screws, they do as they were intended. I pre drill all the holes.
