I rarely use a self taper. On my bus all rivets removed got replaced with like sized #10 panhead Phillips head zinc screws, they do as they were intended. I pre drill all the holes.

I intend to do the same for the exterior. Keeps the OEM look.. however, for interior, self tapping screws have worked like a charm.:thumb:

The ZF5 was rated for ~26k lbs. If you can find an S5-47 it has a slightly higher input torque rating and higher 1st-3rd. If you're pairing it behind a 444E that would help a lot.

Ya, they are the same size as the rivets and there were also these type screws in the body in a number of places, so they don't look out of place when painted to match. I can put a screw in in one second and have literally 100's to do. Rivets would kick my ass.
