Got A Work Van On GovDeals Today!

Hoping to look at an El Camino tomorrow and I just got word on two different JDM Honda micro-vans.
If all else fails we're thinking cop car or even a used Miata.

Well- trying to go look at an El Camino is a whole art in itself. The kinds of folks who own them don't seem like they actually want to sell them and bemoan any questions about their 30-40 year old cars.
Shaun is taking me up to Jacksonville to look at a NICE 2002 Miata with 60k miles. Stick shift, posi, cold ac... ahhh sounds like a nice lil car to me. Its even green.

Actually when someone gets like that I assume the car has hidden issues . You know cars and how they work they have stuff to hide so the “let’s figure out how to scare this guy off” mode kicks in.

Miata is a fun car. Never owned one but driven before . The fact you guys have probably 6-7 good convertible months on the year is a plus! I’ve not had to work on one so I don’t know how they are for accessibility etc.. huge aftermarket following means parts are everywhere !

Yep, we have nice weather and a TON of Miatas!

Your math is a little faulty. March and Oct. I count 2 months. Maybe 3 with the hip season around those two months. Could squeeze out 4 tops in a very good year.

104° in June thru Aug is NOT convertible weather

I passed on it after going over it with a fine toothed comb. Mileage and condition are legit but I felt like he was about $500 too high and I'm in no rush.
VERY sweet lil car though. I want one- its like a large go kart.

Drove a sweet all original 86 el camino today. Man those were/are great cars.
I totally want one. Had to pass on it. It needs someone who can give it tlc. What a fantastically kept old car though. Interior looked nearly new.
But it sat a LOT and its on the high end of our budget.

Looking at a REALLY clean 86 Chevy Custom Deluxe half ton longbed. Its been totally gone through and looks like a nice daily driver. Clean all stock, totally new Vintange Air stock style ac retrofit. 305 with 3 sp auto. Perfect for all around use.

custom deluxe... yeah never saw one of those EVER with factory A/C.. I had to retro the one I had...

I love that body style of truck as long as the floors and cab corners are still solid...

Gonna go put the new reman throttle body on my truck.
Only pita part of it is setting the IAC and TPS on these. Gotta jump a couple terminals together for the iac no biggie but the tps requires a bit of macgyver from what I understand.

Got her this on the way to look at a truck-

After driving it home on a curvy 65mph country highway I can't believe I never had on of these before. Such a great little car for 2.

Put the new throttle body on the truck yesterday. Man oh man what a difference!
The og one had 200k on it and the throttle shaft was as loose as can be. It also was disgustingly dirty.
The change in throttle response is insane. Feels like I picked up an honest 50hp. I'll bet my fuel mileage is greatly improved too.
The TPS is a cheap chinese one so I'm ordering a more expensive chinese AC Delco as they're supposedly the ONLY TPS to use on these TBI engines.
Next is a full tune up. Wires, plugs, cap, rotor.

you will want to adjust the BASE timing also.. get a timing light , disconnect the ESC timing wire and then set it to the sticker.. which is usually 0 degrees advance (I know this is not what you are used to for a gasser but the computer controls total timing.)

people often try and mess with the timing on these TBI engines by twisting the dizzy but then they just bounce off the Knock sensor and never truly run like they are supposed to..

id the engine is cammed then you may want to burn a chip with a little bit more aggressive timing in the mid range but stock, the ECM did a decent job..

I found a bunch of the old OBD-1 ALDL software I wrote years ago.. I almost had a TBI Bus but the seller was an asshat so I didnt get that one..
