Well by beater I mean cheap and not pretty. Something I don't care about shopping carts hitting. The suzuki is actually a really nice car. Runs great, no CEL's. No staining or tears on the interior. AC and everything else work.
Has a few chips in the paint and a bit of curb rash on the front bumper.
Our friend is going back home to Egypt after a failed marriage and we're getting the car for the price of his ticket home.
It does have 136k miles on it but its been really well maintained. If I we can get another 50k out of it I'll be chuffed for the price. AWD with decent power and handling. AND a backseat! :dance:
 
Got the booster in, master cylinder bench bled and installed. Got the lines off the old proportioning valve and unbolted the lines' clips from the frame rails.
Next after my smoke sesh is pulling out the lines and putting in the new ones. Hopefully the bends are perfect! Hopefully all the fittings screw in with no fuss.
Then the fun of bleeding all that air out of the lines and proportioning valve.

After this is all done I need to find a few missing fasteners and figure out a few things. Also getting an 02 sensor finally.

This truck and bus are wearing me out.

Got the new proportioning valve on and all the front lines done.
My hands and arms are killing me. Was a way harder job than I'd expected. Still have to plug two lines into the prop valve then bleed it.
Then I'm eliminating the rear load sensing valve via GM's tsb bulletin.
 
Well it feels good to see the finish line in sight with the truck brakes project.
I want to get back to some more fun jobs after this. We've been REALLY having fun with the Miata. Its loving the updated radiator and coolant. Next up is a wheel/tire upgrade then maybe some new shocks. If I could find sport springs that only drop it a half inch or less I'll maybe do that too.
The car's been great. We take it to the other side of Orlando at least a couple times a week. Went on a nice drive last night with the top down. Was about 70 degrees out and clear.
I've got daylight and the weather should be nice again today so I *should* be done with the truck after a few more hours of work. Ordered an O2 sensor and got the stuff to do an oil change. Gonna take it to a brake shop for that rear valve tsb/elimination.

If I have time and energy I'm gonna get up on top of the bus and wash the roof really well.

Thank goodness the weather is nice!

What kind of mileage are you getting with the Miata? I drive a Z3 and I get about 17 mpg - about 50% better mileage than my bus with about 1/32 the passenger capacity.
 
Sooooo- spent the last hour trying to get the last brake line to thread into the proportioning valve.
NEVER again will I do this job, at least this way.
IDK what to do. I simply cannot get it to thread no matter what I try.
Edit- GOT IT!!!
I guess cooling down in the AC and another doob got me re-energized. Its hot out today. Sunny and in the 80's.

Anyone in the area wana help me bleed these brakes? I got a case of beer for ya.

The truck is gonna get more love from here on out. Its been a good one, and got us through the last year as our main means of getting around.
Now that we have a fully functioning bus and a sweet running miata the truck can finally get some much needed r&r.

Go on, rub it in! We have a dirty roof, dirty bus and highs in the 40's wth rain. This is TEXAS after all! Perhaps we'll move to Florida! ;-)
 
That doesn't sound like good project weather.


I finally got everything buttoned back up on the truck. Lost daylight so I'll bleed it all tomorrow.
 
It is more like "stay inside and cuddle" weather!


For safety items, waiting for dayllight and a fresh start is always a great choice. I hope it goes well for you tomorrow.

I've just never enjoyed wrenching in the dark. And here in FL the skeeters will eat you alive at night.:campfire:

Crawling around under the truck is tiring.
 
Got it partially bled yesterday but the wind and cold and lack of help kept me from finishing. Roxy's off today so I'll have her work the pedal while I crack the bleeders today.
Can't wait to get this truck back on the road. O2 sensor is here too. Got an NTK brand for like $15.
