What is a "governor Distributor"? and how do I tell if I have one?
1985 bus has chevy 366 cubic inch big block. Motor locked up and in looking for replacement, I see option for "governor distributor" .

Re: Governor Distributor, Chevy 366 motor

I have 3 chevy truck/bus motors and they all have governors on them, not in the distributor but on the carburator. After thinking about your question I wonder if they are saying 2 things at once, governor with a distributor where a later model motor would be governor with coil pack, governor with coil on plug or some other kind of spark producer besides a regular distibutor? None of mine have any unusual controls on the distributor just on the Holley carburators. They made the 366 for 40 years or more so it has gone through several updates and distributor and fuel delivery are always changing. For about $1500 you should be able to get that whole motor completely rebuilt, why aren't you doing that? sportyrick

Can you describe the goveror on the Holley carb. Is is electrically actuated? There is some device on the passenger side of the carb, with 2 wire connector. It had always been unplugged as we thought it was a electric choke. Is this a governor?
