Harbor Freight Rivnut Tool

I need to do some light duty riv-nutting.

Is the HF tool any good?

I don't know about harbor frieght. I got this kit off of Amazon and it works well.

I haven't used it, but I got a 16" two-handed tool from Amazon and it was still kind of difficult to pull the 1/4-20 closed-end rivnuts. I think the HF tool is a hand-riveter? So it would be even more difficult, I think. But the smaller open-ended rivnuts are easier to pull.

FWIW you don't even really need one of these tools. A strip of metal with a hole in one end, a bolt and a wrench will do the trick too.

I got the same kit but with a plastic case for $14 more. I don't know where the case is and I broke the mandrels I needed right away, so I would have been better off just getting the tool itself and ordering the mandrels and rivnuts I needed separately. I guess it's good to have some variety on hand.

Thanks for that trick. I’m hoping the HF tool lasts for the 4 nuts I want to install. If not I’ll be trying this
