These outlets are incredibly useful both indoors and out, all year round. They only seem to go on sale around Christmas time so I've made sure to buy all the sets I can. I use these for Christmas lights outdoors while I have another few sets of the indoor version of these outlets controlling my Christmas lights and lamps throughout the house indoors. They are reliable, compact, and easy to use. Probably the best thing about these, however, is how hacker friendly they are. If you're into electronics and DIY, you can build a transmitter for these and control up to 16 outlets from your PC with under $10 worth of parts. They use a simple remote control protocol over a 315MHz radio frequency that you can readily buy cheap transmitters and receivers for. I built such a transmitter that is capable of controlling 12 outlets (units 1, 2, and 3 each from channels A, B, C, and D) and plugs into USB. I can then control my lights from my phone wherever I am. Awesome! If you plan on buying multiple sets, make sure you don't buy two of the same channel (this applies to the white indoor version as well as the black outdoor version - an indoor CH A and an outdoor CH A will interfere with each other). They have little stickers indicating the channel on them. I have indoor sets A, B, and D and outdoor set C which covers everything I need.
