Heaters

It reminds me of when I checked out solar panels for my home so I could get free electricity. I figured it would take around 15 years before I saw free electricity. Unless you have deep pockets the savings isn't cost effective for awhile.
Nothing free

I once had access to coke also, but it was white and really expensive to burn in the stove.[emoji3]
Lol...I'm referring to a different product[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Its not meant to be a right or wrong. We are all hear to build something that works for themself. I just dont have as deep of pockets as some of you. I can def understand somebody building out with all diesel appliances if they gonna be in in for 5+ years full time, thats a no brainer in the end. But I need every penny now to get my Bus and get it completed and on the road. Just MY circumstances. Not everyones. ****, if somebody else foot the build, we ALL would have sailboat setups.

Well it looks like mom had an IRA that will be disbursed right away, so I'll start looking for a heater. Oh wait, I need a bus first. I might just buy both that I'm looking at, the REFN and the FEFN.

reality for me is most likely propane. I really like the idea of an old coal stove from a caboose, and I have easy access to coal, and wood too. But dealing with ashes, dust etc while on the road, not so sure it is worth it, and propane is everywhere. The stove(cooking) is propane and so is the hot water heater. Just kind of makes sense to stay with one fuel.

I'd love to be able to stop and dig up some coal to use for heating. I've got a couple antique coal stoves that don't work all that well burning wood. Coal isn't easy to find out west.

Yeah that would be nice and add a **** germany black box gismo to make oil out of coal.

Is a wood burning stove a viable option? Pros and cons? Compared to electric or propane heaters? Granted the wood burners double as a stove, but I'd probably not use it for more than heating the space.
Just found this price...and wood is the cheapest fuel in the US

That is the ale price they are pushing right now. It's another $142 for the stand or wall shield mounts. That Mini will only heat up to 200sf. mine will be close to 262, so would need a bit more if that was my stand alone heater. That will only accept 6" pieces of wood.

Ok...a stand could be DIY..

The hardwood lump charcoal sold cheap at the big box stores does pretty decent or you can find BITUMENOUS COAL for a decent price that is more like trying to burn lava rocks.
I do and have used both in a forge with success .
The hardwood lump likes to spit and pop a lot but it burns hotter and last longer if banked up than charred, pressed, lumped charcoal.
Just a thought.
I have actually thought about if I was parked where it was that bad I would under pin the bus with tin and stick a diesel/kerosene (multi fuel) fired torpedo heater under the nose of the bus that would heat the engine block, the fuel tank, the water tank under the bus and the heat under the bus frame and body would also make the entire bus's steel body radiate heat? And the little heater inside wouldn't have to work as hard?
Just a thought and idea?
I said wasn't ever gonna live where I had to live with it but dang it its snowed here at least once in the last 2-years and 4-years before that? And my wife wants to talk to me about global warming?
Stay warm
Good luck
HAVE FUN.

Go with the Grizzley. The Cub just doesnt fit enough to last more than an hour or 2. The Grizzley will burn 2-4 hours. Hot coals up to 6 maybe 7. I use my Grizzley to warm up and dry out bus( my shed is my test bus:rofl:) in evenings. Warms up nice. Once in my bus, i will load it full at bedtime, 2-4 hours later when it dies and temps drop inside, the furnace will kick on for rest of night.

I bought a small household airtight stove (about 2'x2') shortly after getting this bus. It should hold a fire for seven or eight hours, but it found it's way out of the bus come summertime. It had to come out that summer because I insulated, and the stove never found its way back into the bus. I've been using small electric heaters since then.
