Hello, my partner and I are trying to find a mid-size Type B bus as soon we can. However in our area of north Georgia - we have not been able to find much besides a big sale an hour away. They have a multitude of 2010-2014 Type C and B buses, but all of them have Maxxforce DT466 engines. I've done some basic research and observerd a lovely spreadsheet of good and bad engines - therefore I'm BUMMED because the ONE chance we get at finding a Type B bus the engine is dogshit.

Are Type B's really this rare? Is this a bad time to purchase a school bus? Auctions have little to nothing in my area. If anyone wants to help us out - 30066 is the area code if anyone wants to help... (within 80 miles) Ugh! Much love. :cowboy:

i know its not within 80 miles but my local school district has some dog noses for sale.
dont know exactly what but onslow county school system bus barn is just aa phone call away 28540 area code.
jacksonville NC.
when i bought my first bus from them they gave me the full 20-year maitenance records wiring diagrams and everything they had and insurance required they do a full inspection on it before it left the lot.
mine is a 1986 all mechanical bought in 2006 and have never had any problems other than the normal minor maitenance stuff .
i am sure that what they are selling now would be all computer so would be speed governed in the computer.
i dont see much of them broke down on the road or on a tow truck do i see many of them at there 3rd party repair shop which i pass everyday.
you could also call ADVANCED maitenance in hubert NC and ask them about which ones they usually get to work on from the school district 910-353-9575 if interested.

We were considering calling our local county school system! I think that's our next step since our options are limited. I appreciate it, but unfortunately that location is too far for us!

Sounds like a good, reliable bus. Which is ideally what we/everyone wants! x)

We just measured what a Type C bus length could be - and we were shocked at how much space we could have. But we think it's... still too much. So much uncertainty. Ahhh.

Granted, I was pretty narrow in what I was looking for in a bus ... But I had to go close to 300 miles to get the bus I wanted. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with emissions, DEF, etc.... (DT466E)

How long have you been looking? There is currently a very nice 7-window in the classifieds on this forum...

Aside from the normal auction sites like purplewave / govdeals / public surplus, facebook market usually has a decent selection if you open the mileage range wide enough and are patient.

For about a month. I'll take a look at that, thanks! Yeah we are itching to get one asap due to our current environmental situation. :) But patience may be the best option for a good engine.

You're likely going to have to drive to find the bus you want. I had to drive from SC to Virginia to get mine, about 300 miles away.

The bus you want is out there but not likely close and will require travel.

The largest comfortable bus you can get and still fit in 2 parking spaces is a 30'footer dognose like mine. mine is 8 window. Any larger and you'll stick out of parking lots and kicked out of some campgrounds.
