Hello and question

Hi my name is Marie, John and I have bought a 2008 international 10 seater to convert. So far we've done a lot of the demolition, today is take down the ceiling day! I am getting ready to get windows and am wondering do you have to use RV windows or can you install regular house windows in a vehicle that moves???

Welcome!

I wouldn't recommend residential windows in a vehicle. The rough opening it would require would reduce the width of your bus by
3 1/2" to 5" on each wall depending on the width of the window sash.

Rv windows install in a much thinner wall and it's possible to get them in double pane low e glass which is the same type of glass used in residential windows. Hope that helps

Definitely do not use residential windows. They have trouble surviving the delivery process to the job site let alone the abuse of constant driving.

window advise

Thanks Tapatalk, I am mostly concerned about the vibrations driving and how a residential window would hold up. I do like the bus windows but figure that they will let all the heat in and out negating any insulating we're doing.

i was always against house windows.. but I was thinking theres a couple buiklds on here someplace that have a couple years or more on house windows so far without issues but I may be wrong.

safety glass is the biggest concern. but you could use IMPACT certified windows (designed for hurricane prone areas) which should have safety glass.. though they are heavy..

I made reflectix panels to cover my windows when I need them to be insulated. A little velcro tape makes it a quick job to take them down or put them up again, and they double as light blocking/ privacy panels. Replacing the windows themselves, that sounds like a lot of work!

There is an inexpensive film (like tint) that you can install on any window to make it impact resistant.

The glass in RV Windows is not the same as windshield "saftey glass".


It is tempered so that if it breaks t will shatter into tiny pieces and not leave large dangerous shards.
