Hi. I'm Teddy! I spend most of my time slaving away at a corporate office job so that I can stack money while I spend frugally in hopes of buying a skoolie and beginning a new life as a nomad in November.

I believe I found a potentially great deal on a Ford B600 here locally. I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether I should jump on this or not.

Summary:
1993 Ford B600 w/Cummins Diesel
140k miles
No accidents, regular maintenance
Condition looks good from pics
2 working AC unites
Rear entry lift gate
Asking $4000

I was told be a skoolie owner and friend that I should jump on it and try to get him down to $3000. If not, keep looking. What say you guys?

Motorcycle life, sweet!

I like that bright Yellow. It is highly visible, not that a bus is easy to miss but the bright yellow stands out in the mind. I always wear bright orange or yellow when i ride motorcycle for this reason.


I like modifying the fire rescus to read "Fir Escue"

I'm sorry, I don't get the reference? I mean, I do ride... but how did you know? Did I allude to it somehow? Are you referring to something else?

Also, this is not yet mine -- I'm going to check it out tomorrow and see if I can get the guy down to $3k. What do you think?

Well the mud flaps say "Carpenter." Does that mean something? I really am pretty ignorant to all of this. What's a Carpenter?

Carpenter is the company that built the body, much like Thomas or Blue Bird.

It appears to have Mitchell, IN type of bodywork (mine does too). There was a rather significant assembly flaw with buses from this plant, the Ft. Wayne bodies did not appear to have the problem. The flaw involved the point where the roof bows were welded to the upper part of the walls, it was discovered when a bus rolled somewhere in Florida (thankfully only occupied by the driver, who was not badly hurt). It would have been enough for a major recall, but Carpenter had gone out of business by then ...

Not all bodies had the problem. Some were OK, some only had a few bad welds, a few had all bad welds ...

Better to know now, than after the fact, right?

Its an ok bus. I had one and I didn't like the ride very much. was rough.

Carpenter also made busses in richmond indiana.. and those didnt have the body flaw.. they all had to be repaired if they were in school service..

mine shows were it had been torn apart, repaired and put back together....

to me the carpenter rides decent but not as nice as a Bluebird.. but then again I think all short busses ride somewhat bouncier and rougher than the long (esp Rear engine) busses do...

I wouldnt trade a short bus for a long one... I can maneuver around pretty much anywhere in a shorter bus...

since im a downtown city-boy at heart I like to be able to run the bus through downtowns of cities.. short is a must for certain cities... philly, pittsburgh, boston, NYC to nanme a few that I wouldnt want a 40 footer!
