Oh definitely, that's why i'm here, to read everyone's opinion! My fear is to come across....a little harsh...some times, but everyone that knows me personally knows I'm pretty open minded :)

I've half way convinced my brother in law to drive it back for me, he has a cdl ;)
 
you wont need a cdl.But having someone to drive it to you is great.
The reason I prefer an auction, even sight unseen, is that the school board auctioning off the vehicle is much more forthcoming about any issues. I called the sweet little lady who worked at the school board who owned the bus and spoke to her about it before bidding. She wasn't making a penny off the sale and had no reason to exaggerate its condition or deceive me in any way. They gave me a full tank of diesel, a brand new battery, and had the maintenance guy come out and help us get everything figured out. They even had a huge empty lot to get used to driving it around. She even got me coffee!
I too try not to come across as harsh. So much is lost in internet conversation. It's all good. You seem like a very nice guy to me.
 
Ah.....when i saw the ebay auction ended with a "sold" label my heart cried a little :'(

How was everybody's Xmas?
 
Mine was good, first time in more years than I can remember that I didn't snowboard christmas day with the fam, but it didn't work out this year.

We did christmas dinner on the eve, so christmas day was pretty chill. Spend a few hours monkeying with my macbook, but I removed the optical drive (who the **** uses cd/dvd's anymore) and swapped in a SSD and did a clean install of OSX Yosemite. Left the stock 500gb drive in for mass storage and put my os/programs on the SSD. Its running AMAZINGLY. Feels like a brand new computer. Anyone who is not running solid state already should seriously consider this. Anything requiring disk read/write happens about 5x the previous speed. Also nice for anyone who uses their laptop on the road as spinning drive platters and bumpy roads don't play nicely together.

Next step is setting it up to dual boot windows, for those pesky things I still need to do in windows once in a while.

Edit: 100th post, I'm now a skoolie! Well if I had a bus yet... *sob*
 
Water tank

The portable water tank is an interesting idea for camping. Throw it on the roof of the bus, fill it up, hook it into your plumbing, and let gravity do the work. You might not need an electric pump at all.
 
No love for the handheld shower heater? I wonder if it gets too hot to hold....that would defeat the purpose, would it not? lol

Ya not so sure about the on demand shower head. 120 volts in the shower just doesn't seem like a good combination to me. :confused:

Hmmmm....no, you are right. You have to admit though, a handheld on-demand heater is pretty cool! I've never seen one before. Have I been leaving under a rock?!?

As for the portable water tank....I know it's just a giant heavy duty iv , but this is for a temp solution in case I find the "right bus" right away and can make the conversion by mid-feb for a trip to Disney! It would be the little one's first trip! Can you imagine how special that would be in our skoolie? That's the main reason why I was rushing with my planning ;)

And how rude of me, after a weeks of absence, not event a "hello!" But you'll forgive me, family was visiting from overseas, so I was....a little busy...

If you ever need a place to park near disney for free for a week or two let me know. I'm about a half hour away from disney on acreage with cows.

Was looking at the pic gallery, and going through some of the builds.
I was all like "aaahhhh.....ooooohhh......niiiiice....!" After a while, i felt like i was looking at skoolie p0rn!!!! There are really some tremendous buses out there!
What i can't seem to be able to wrap my mind around is, and please forgive my lack of seach skills (but believe me, i tried!), how da heck do you attach the building frame, might that be 2x4, 1x4 or other, to the inside body of the bus?!? Someone mentioned self-tapping screws....ok duly noted; but where do you screw these in? on the vertical ribs between windows, or from the outside through the body?
Also, when you guys "gut the bus", do you remove the inside layer of metal to re-do the insulation with said frame and spray-foam, or do you build on top of the original interiors?
I've seen a lot of pics of on-going builds showing the woooden frame, but i never noticed (maybe i'm blind?!?) screws on the "studs". Are you guys using marine-grade adhesive between studs and bus, then screws to build onto the studs?
If anyone could point me to the right post/site that has a....walkthrough....of all this, i'd really appreciate it!
One more question: is there no cure once you start dreaming of buses and tearing up seats? :p
 
Too funny, my ole lady often says to me that I "need to quit looking at bus-porn" lol.
Some people skip out on the gutting part and leave the metal panels and less-than-ideal fiberglass batting.
Not me! To properly insulate it, I pull the panels out. Like this-

This is my FAVORITE skoolie build on youtube. Jarrod Pimental is his name, and he chronicles pretty much the whole build in a 30 part youtube series. The only thing I'd do differently would be to panel in the windows and install insulated rv windows in their place.

And btw, CB, my wife and I watched the whole "miniserie" of Jarred's conversion. So far he has done a great job! Haven't checked for any updates as his last video was from December I think.

If anyone comes across another early 90s TC2000 as from the first posts, help a skoolie brother out!

According to the plate, it has an allison 2000 Trans, and 5.38 gears with a cummins 5.9 only 108k on the dial. Look at that belly storage!

Belly storage is nice. I would have bought mine without it but im glad to have 5 bins under the bus.
 
That posting says "8 days ago", and I've been using a couple of sites that search all of CL at once. This did not come up.

I must know what sorcery you guys use to find these listings!!!!
This wouldn't be a mechanical engine, correct?
