Okay well 30 years sounds like he worked on them before and probably knows their quirks which is good. They are tough to find.
That's one of the reasons I got a 30 footer. It's the longest you can have without being barred from some parks for being too large. It's also exactly the length of 2 parking spaces so I can park in any parking lot where parking spaces are open across from each other and not stick out. That's already come in handy. What a great starting point. After my wife and I dont have 3 kids to house I would love to convert a 25 footer, keeps you legal in the national parks. I highly doubt the heaters are the culprit, in my 38 footer I deleted those as well and only drained a couple gallons at most (I also regret this decision). Plus, your bus was empty and unloaded, it should run with ease under those conditions, I second the suggestion to replace the thermostats and make sure the fan clutch works. Looks great so far!
What I looked up says standard parking spaces are 18' long so a 36' bus should fit in 2 spaces without sticking out....just sayinThat's one of the reasons I got a 30 footer. That's 30 feet which includes the dog nose engine compartment, 25 foot of living space.
Well they can be 18' long but sometimes they are only 15' long. Most around where I live in the South East are 15'.What I looked up says standard parking spaces are 18' long so a 36' bus should fit in 2 spaces without sticking out....just sayin![]()
I grew up in the 60s and 70s and we did stuff like put coarse black pepper into the radiator to stop leaks and pull the thermostat out completely just to get home. The car seemed to run way, way cooler with constantly recirculating water/coolant. But I'll understand quantum physics before I understand diesels.True. Many of us just put in a bypass loop to replace the heater loop. The engine design should not rely on the auxiliary radiator for cooling, but it does use the same coolant/fluid circuit.
We had an old AMC wagon with a failing radiator - I remember driving in the summer with the heat on high to keep the engine cool. Not optimal. ;>)
