Hello all. Just purchased a 92 International 3800 466 Auto Former USMC K9 Mobility Unit.

Stay or Go?

There are two roof mount AC's (RV Products Inc, Part No: 9330B713)
And Two Interior Ceiling Mount Carrier AC (Model EM-1)

One of the Carrier's have lines that are cut... and the other seems still "hooked up" but does not operate that I can tell.

The Two Roof Mounts are long in the tooth, but also appear to have recently functioned... one has the power line cut.

Also that is a Fan, Blower on the floor? Keep?

Question is, should I even mess with any of these, or just remove interior Carriers and Replace the Roof Mounts with newer stuff?

Carrier went out of business. I have one that no one wants to work on which I'll probably get rid of unless someone will tap the line to add freon.
 
check what type of refrigerant they use.. carrier loved to use R-22 which is an EOL refrigerant and expensive... that bus is older than R-134a. but if it was originally designed to run on R-12 you can comnvert it to 134a easily and it will cool pretty good..

.. if you want good cold A/C while driving you'll want to re-commission some type of engine A/C.. those roof-toppers wont do much for you in the driver seat if you have a way to run them while driving..

Where are you at in eastern NC?
I live near the bases and just happen to do HVAC for a living. More commercial style for me but I do have the gauges,hoses,access to all the oddball refrigerant as needed and contact with all the manufacturers and there data.
And if you decide to get rid of them I will come disassemble them if I can have them ?
Plus I have access to a full sheetmetal shop where we can go make whatever you need and can get a little bit of discounted prices on new mini-splits if you decide to do that.

There doesn't seem to be a standard solution used for these conversions... I'm in full research mode, but also ready to get things moving.

What is the easiest solution to cooling/heating the bus?

While there are a myriad of solutions to both heating and cooling, all of them start with reducing the need as much as possible. You never hear people complaining that they put too much insulation in their bus.

Stuff as much insulation in as you can. Pay attention to draughts and seal it up. You want to be in control of ventilation, not the other ay around. As much shade as you can get will help too, esp. with cooling.

Paint the roof white, and add those magic beads :)

That gives you a fighting chance of reducing the need for heating and cooling to a manageable amount.

I live in eastern NC also and for the last few days have thought about more heat in my build?
But ain't living in it yet?
I have found a pioneer brand heating and cooling unit for around 900$ for a 12K BTU unit.

Thanks folks. I'm looking to do a conversion that is part-time family RV (1-2 weeks max trips) and also a cycling specific travel bus, as I sell cycling socks etc and travel to races and events to race/vend... so wanting the following:

Trailer Hitch Bike Rack
Rear Ladder to Roof Deck
Shower
Toilet
Big Bed
Two Bunks
Travel seats for 2-4 adults and Two kids (Seatbelts in Couches possible).
Flexible on the kitchen and could outfit it more like an expedition 4x4 setup if need so we can remove and have the space if needed.

Would like Solar on the roof.
Water tanks inside the bus.
And also a Passenger Captains Chair over the steps area.

Plan on stripping the interior and fully insulating it and building it back in a primarily white interior (Floors, Walls, Ceiling (May reuse Ceiling).

Lots of wants... and ready to get after it. Mechanically bus is perfect and passed DOT and tags are inbound... needs some electrical sorting and cleanup for sure.

I have been researching heavily, and have no problem getting to business on any part of the project, but would love advice and help where available!

You've got a nice long list of wants. I'd suggest you prioritize that list based on what you need the soonest. It's just to daunting to have a long list of needs for the bus.

I know projects overlap each other so it's not always as simple as knocking one item off the list.
