Help identify this myserious white powder!

I went out the garge door here in Texas and saw all of this white powder on our bus.


Any clue as to what it is and what I can do about it?

I just steam cleaned our bus, snow, ice, and freezing rain up here for the last week and the bus is white from road salt, yuck. Heading south tomorrow.

It can be hazardous to your bus's health if driven too long on the salt thrown down on roadways to fight it!

We're using the bus as our moving van. Headed to Florida. This white stuff is keeping us from making a run. Heck, we were supposed to be there by now (for this trip). We are now running the risk of not making it to the Skoolie Swarm in Melrose, Fl that starts Feb 21, 2021. Sigh ... perhaps a few days?

But seriously be careful if you have to drive and don't go out if you don't have to. Too many nasty wrecks and pile ups in the news.

Here in SD there is not much snow just lows in the -20s.

Lots of Snow and lots of cold here in the Chicago-town. most nice though the customer site letting me (insisted) that I keep my bus in their dry heated garage.



I arrived yesterday Just as the snow was beginning.. my whole trip travelling, the temps were around 0 to -5f, I keep power-service additive in my fuel and unlike some, i didnt remove my bus heaters.. (in fact I restored them).. so absolutely no issues driving in short sleeves the whole way. I did find that during stops while wanting to work that I had to leave the engine run and have the webasto on to keep it 75-80 inside.. and thats with my air shutters closed..

We were without power for 56 hours. The power just came back. No heat, no internet. We had to cook by the fireplace. It was between --2F and 18F degrees the whole time! I did take a short drive down the street to get some firewood ... and that was a nasty drive. Looks like it will start to melt in two days. This weekend, it is to get into the 60's. Welcome to Texas!

Excuse me, what is this "snow" that you mention? I don't understand - how can water be white and solid? Mind you, I'm very familiar with cold: recently the days here have been much colder than normal, with the temperatures plummeting into the low-70s. Brrr. At this rate I'll have to wear my thermal insulated flipflops, and I may even need to wear a slightly thicker T-shirt. Damn, only the toughest can survive a Southern California winter here. And I've got no more sunscreen left - woe is me.

Here we are, a week after hitting a low of -2 degrees F, we hit the 80's!


There is a saying ... "If you do not like the weather in Texas, wait 5 minutes."

We have never had a power outage where i live in Minnesota for more than a couple of hours.
So i would not be able to relate to the discomfort.
I thought of the idea Of Skoolie life style when I turned the key in the Gerstenslager Monday morning for winter road trip from Minneapolis St.Paul area back to West Central Minnesota
I could turn on the heat and the drive was great so did the Duluth trip on the way.An extra 425 miles turn in the road.
Had no problems filling a few times with propane and had to tell persons at the gas station that this was road tax propane not just heat fuel.
But the idea that we could use the Gerstenslager for heat during the winter will make me keep a coach at home from now on in the winter'
Your storm taught me something about where to park my vehicle in the off season.
