Help Me Find The Right Bus

The Bloodmobile has many advantages that make me lean that way. It has no back door, so I would be buying 2 used doors to modify that for the shop. And I may have to move the side door depending on how far back it is, may have to modify the opening to except a lift. All doable, just a bunch of work. Probably easier to tie into the existing electrical system than starting fresh, might be wrong though.

I'm thinking paying the $135 to have someone verify the questions I have is worth it. I'd hate to fly out there and then find it's a hunk of crap and then be stranded in Ill.

Stranded? Planes leave Chicago every minute. Your money tho and they don't do enuff mechanicals that I would trust. One start on video means zip but you have to make that decision and live with it. For some of us money is not easy come, easy go, well not anymore. I used to make it but you can't take it to the grave either so it's a matter of choices.

John

But wait, I quizzed them deeper and got them to admit this:
Your WeGoLook inspection can be upgraded with a Video Package for $35 that includes two videos. The videos are a 1 minute walk-around and a 1 minute working demonstration that shows the owner starting the engine, driving forwards, backwards, then stopping the engine.

That's worth more than the photo inspection for $99.

None of that would have helped me with the lemon I own.

Where do you find standard buses for less than that if that's a lot of money? That one is a base model with no frills, but looks in excellent shape. Non paying bidder always concerns me. No matter what the seller says I read it as the buyer got out there looked at it and found issues and walked. This one has cruise control, how common is that in a bus?

Pretty common in buses with electronic engines.

Pretty bus yes. I'm sure another will be along in 10 minutes or so.
Haven't you been following Roll Another One? Buying sight unseen? That bus is way to suspect for my liking at that price. But I am picky, don't need hassels or major issues.

John

Even if I'd seen it, the leak hadn't sprung up and the solid rust free bus runs like a BEAST so IDK what you're talking about.

Ok, let me elaborate about you not buying in person for those of similar mind.

Bald tires
Broken dash
A/C not working
No wipers
No running lights
Blue antifreeze aka windshield washer fluid
Heaters?
Chance to run the VIN would have shown poor maintenance or none unless an emergency bandaid fix
50mph beast, impressive
cost of 2 flights out there when one would have done, with you in the plane
hotel and expenses for return trip for two?

Tags and ins for something you now can't drive
towing costs
And now, how much to fix even with some free help?

And you bought a van the same way...
delivery fees, tranny on the way out etc

All preventable in my humble opinion!

I rest my case, you paid about 5 grand too much.
They should have paid you to take it off the lot.

I sincerely hope people buying realize the error in buying something sight unseen.

Have a good day,

John

Most of the problems were fixed changing out the old solenoid.
All the REAL problems with the bus could have happened no matter where it came from.

IF I"D WENT AND SAW THE BUS BEFOREHAND, I'D STILL HAVE BOUGHT THE BUS!!!!:nonono:

But you didn't and bought anyway so whatever works for you I guess.

Enjoy your bus

I think of us as "friends", man. Its hard to understand folks' emotions and intents on a forum. But sometimes it comes across as utter condemnation and judgment from you, man.
I'm already not happy about all this, you don't have to tell me to "enjoy my bus"- we all know I'm not.
But this isn't because of how it was purchased, even though the school were dicks. Its about Navistar building garbage. I didn't know it, and it took me buying/owning one to realize what junk these later DT's are.
Lesson learned for sure. See if you catch me ever buying one again.

Ok, I'm jumping in the mix with this...a salesperson knows how to spin a deal...we the buyer want a product...we know our budget...and often take the deal because it's within our budget...sadly, we often get burned...bet it's sitting in your yard instead of a scrapyard...so it must have some value

Similar buses sell for a lot more than I paid.
Again- I'm just frustrated with Navistar and their poor design and construction of various parts of the bus.

Navistar is junk...idk the whole story but I think International is in there somewhere...they used to be a solid brand...

There’s really no way anyone could’ve known the engine issue would occur. The bus made a flawless 1000 mile trip.. anyone who would’ve looked at it in person would’ve seen it run perfectly .. so you might’ve seen the cracked dash plastic but people expect cracks on that stuff in old busses.. anyone with bus knowledge would’ve said solenoid.. EC and anyone else who responded to that question thought “solenoid” for the lack of accessories.. a $50 part..

Not all of DT 466e have this issue.. there’s plenty out there that never leak .. this one does. And it’s a big issue. Again one that couldn’t be predicted..

Even if someone went to the bus before the bids went out it woulda ran great sounded great.. and the report would’ve been posted here and someone would say “ cracked plastic and a $50 solenoid and you have a great bus”..

All of our busses are used 10+ year old vehicles.. not a single one is perfect whether you fly across the USA to see it in person or not...

Obviously EC wasn’t the only one who thought this to be a good bus.. it takes more than one to bid up an auction..

Sorry for the delay in responding, -35 here with windchill so lots of chores to do to survive.

May we always be friends CB.
I agree with not understanding emotions and intents on a forum.
It is also a place to question whatever is questionable and you certainly have left me no choice but to try and understand your thinking and/or methodology.
All this will pass but if one other person learns from this discussion, about not buying blindly, being so eager, going deeply into debt with a bus purchase, the consequences of one's actions then we have done a service to all reading.
Yesterday I pointed your case out to someone intent on doing the same as you to show him the pro's and cons, so to speak. Difference is he has/will have the coin necessary and not be in such a bind as you.
I can feel good about that.
You attempt to justify your position and can never convince me that is the way to buy a bus or do business. An expensive lesson for you for sure but a learning experience for all.
I do hope you enjoy your bus getting done what it takes, is there any other choice. You shouted me down , not the other way. I was only trying to see your perspective from the beginning and can say yours is NOT a sound theory in choosing, finances, debt load for anyone and homework not being done. Can't blame Navistar totally, there design has an MO to get these machines sold, back for service and the parts end. All manufacturers operate the same! Saying that, there dealer treated you like a pos, so I hope people hear that also. You certainly are not in my mind CB. I know, words are cheap right?
I want you to know CB I will always be here for other assistance on matters that arise if need be. I do understand cost effective solutions so, feel free to ask, I am out and won't bother with this thread having made you so uncomfortable. My apologies for that but not to others considering a bu purchase. Expensive fixes at times but purchased rather inexpensively in most cases. Some people should appreciate they have a roof at all before a venture such as this.
So, hope others can relate to both our views and opinions. Good luck everyone.

Peace bro,

John

I didn't go into debt. I sold two buses I collectively had spent about $4k on and made 11900. No regrets. I still came out a wee bit ahead and gave my friend eddie a wad of cash to boot.
So again- seems like you're harshly judgmental of me in that regard.
My brand new "warrantied" subaru has far worse failures than this 14 year old bus has at 182k miles. They don't stand behind their products, nor do Navistar.

My mistake, thought repairs were going on CC, which to me means debt, monthly payments. Glad you made money and Eddie worked for you so was that a freebie?
Subaru, you got snow there? Why would you need that?

Repairs WERE going to go on cc. But not doing that anymore, so no debt with this bus yet. If I can cobble together some fix and get it right I'll probably buy some tires with plastic if I don't immediately dump it on CL.
What about Eddie and "freebies"???? He did some welding for me, before he knew he had stage 4 rectal cancer, but I paid him darn well for that. I donated part of my bus sales to Eddie to help him out with living expenses since disability denied him and he's unable to work.
There's a gofundme for him. https://www.gofundme.com/helpedsampson

The subaru is something I bought because we had an older one that ran forever. I wanted a reliable car. I didn't get one. The AWD was just one feature and not a major factor in my choosing the car.
