Help Settle an argument...

Has anyone cut or grinded pieces of the inside wall, metal thing that the bus seats bolted on too? Planning on the inside framing and the argument is he wants to cut a piece out so the beam from the ceiling to the floor so the wall will go in straight. I don't think its a good idea messing with that framing.

Does that have anything to do with the structure of the bus??

The chair rail is structural. Cutting a small section out won't harm it, but you don't want to remove it all. I look at it this way- The bus needs to be X to be safe, so it is engineered to be X x 1.5. Removing a piece of that might take less than 1% away, still leaving way more than enough to be safe.

I wouldn't remove it completely, but notching out a piece here or there will be just fine.

bus framing

I would disagree, These things are like Sherman tanks going down the road. Here in Indiana the roads are very bad and all the solid framing you can get the better. I have put a ton of weight on my bus and would hate to see a weak spot in the structure of it.

Another option would be to cut/slice the vertical beam right at the point where you wanted to cut the inside wall, so that the metal "Tab" fits/slides into the wood.

That way you do not compromise at all the structural integrity of the metal.

There are already huge notches in the chair rail for the wheel wells, and (in my bus at least) there are two complete breaks for the fuel fill up and the side exit door. I think the chair rail gives local stiffness at the base of the side wall, but it does not need to be continuous from front to back on order to provide this.

I cut out a 2ft section for my propane storage box. I don't think removing a little here and there will be a huge problem.

The factory will cut sections for side E doors and such, I'm sure what they add restores some structural strength. Everyone worries thinking if you exceed anything by 1% the bus is going to collapse and kill 100's of people.
