I am looking at a 2005 International IC CE300 Bus. It is owned by a church nearby. They bought it in 2015 with 138,000 miles on it. It now has 148,000 on it. The transmission was rebuilt in 2009 at 131k miles and the engine had a frame out rebuild in 2013 at 134k miles. I have seen the documentation of such, so there is paperwork to back up the claims. hopefully, the work was actually done and not just paper whipped. It also had brake calipers and lines done in 2015 at 138k miles. Totals for the work that has been done since 2009 is over $21,000 which I have seen the receipts for.

They are asking 9k for it but are negotiable

It is already painted white. No leaks underneath and there don't seem to be any major rust spots. Windows are tinted. Tires are like new. There is only one weird thing that he said happens. There is a service brake or parking brake system error message that lights up on occasion and it did for me as I was test driving but I was playing with applying and removing the parking brake when it did (and I wasn't doing it right). He said they have tried to get it fixed and the issue has never been found (probably why they replaced the brakes and lines in 2015). I believe they replaced some wiring harness but that didn't fix the issue. It didn't appear to affect anything. It is an electric over hydraulic parking brake I believe.

I never really asked the question... Do you think this is a decent deal or should I continue looking?

Also never mentioned it is a DT466E engine and Allison transmission.

What model allison?

Seems like a good deal to me with both engine and trans rebuilt, plus painted other then the orange bit. Nice wheels, how are the tires?

Must say that is low mileage to have needed a rebuild. So it may well have a lot more miles on it.

It was supposedly rebuilt because it was overheated. Here is a picture of the repair invoice.

Ok that makes sense. Looks like they did a thorough job. The 466 does not take to overheating very well. Great engine but do not keep driving if it starts to overheat.

Tires usually time out before they wear out. Check the mfg date stamped on the tires. 7-8 year old
tires are technically times out.

All of my tires are about 8 yrs old but they look great. I will, very soon put new steer tires on the front and the best of the rest will go on the rear.

Peace

Ah, I was wondering why they did a frame-out rebuild. The DT466E is a wet-sleeved engine, meaning it can mostly be rebuilt without removing the engine from the bus. Looks like they removed the engine to diagnose the problem(s).

I seem to recall reading somewhere on this forum another member had some parking brake issue(s) and it boiled down to some computer issue - that even IH has not been successful in correcting as yet.
Is this bus hydraulic or air brakes?
