Hi everyone!
Just wanted to say hello! I’m finally taking the plunge and can’t wait to start this adventure. I’ve been admiring from afar for too long. 😅 I just bought a bus in Texas and can't wait to get on the road. This will be a work in progress, and I’ll be leaning on all your expertise and ideas. With a sip of bourbon and a step back, maybe everything will come into focus. So many questions and never enough time. Baby steps.... or are those drunken steps? Only time will tell and if they lead us to the top of the mountain... who cares!
Cheers!!
Greg

Hello Rucker!
The plan... LOL I don't know if i would call it a plan but, i would like to spend most of my time on the road.
I still have to pick up the bus, but assuming it's in decent condition... I need to get the floor demo done, get the new floor and insolation in, then i'd like to start rolling down the road. A project on wheels. I don't know how practical that will be, but i'd like to start clocking some miles and enjoying the scenery. Curious if anyone out there has tried this approach and if it was manageable.
Thanks

Welcome to the skooloe.net.

Are you registering & insuring the bus in California? As a Commercial Vehicle or a Recreational Vehicle? When?

Hello DeMac! I have houses in AZ and Wa, but i live in CA. It sounds like the place to register it is WA. I'll try to get the reg. and insurance as an RV. Sounds pretty straight forward... i didn't even look into CA. I can only imagine what kind of hoop you'd have to run through to get it registered here. LOL

Sounds like you won't need any help or guidance navigating the legal loopholes & landmines. You already know.

Idk about TX, but the DMVs in Florida & Oregon will issue a temporary transport license plate as long as you show a Valid DL, proof of insurance and the signed original title (or bill of sale).

The paper plate is also a registration, from the departing state, with the buyes name & insurance, right next to the VIN. We go to the DMV to release the vehicle from the departing-state (helps clear the title & prevents two state titles). Once we arrive at the final-destination-state (usually a time limit), we can re-title in our name, show proof of insurance type (RV or commercial), convert the title (RV requirements?), then register it as a (RV or Commercial) vehicle & recieve permanent (RV or Commercial) plate.

Are you driving to AZ or WA first or do you intend to drive from TX to CA, then complete the documentation remotely?

when I brought RedByrd home from texas.. i got a temporary tag from texas DMV online and printed it in my hotel.. didnt even have to visit the DMV.

Thanks DeMac!
Good looking out! I'm a total rookie! Fake it until you make it! I talked to the WA DMV about the registration, and they seem supper okay with it. Haven't gotten a hold of the insurance company yet and need to find out more about the temp registration.
I'll have to do some more research!

Fill the Cooler

Bourbon here. After all, I'm in Kentucky.

The bus ride home was easy. I just turned on the cruise control and stepped back to the BBQ and started cooking. The cop asked, 'Who was driving?' I said, 'Not me I'm drunk!' We all laughed for a while.
I could use some bail money.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Demac, I'm on the way with bail.

And more bourbon.

Hang in there -- be there soon.

OP -- You plan is pretty much what we're going with. Do the minimum right away to get the inspection and registration (more hoops to jump through here in Maryland than in WA, apparently :( ) then take our time to do the interior as we figure it out. I have to figure in a wheelchair (my wife) so my interior design will probably differ from the norm, so we have a few things to noodle through.
