We just bought a 1996 Thomas Vista 29 passenger bus and found this forum. So far I have pulled the seats so we can start working on a floorplan. We hope to paint the exterior soon. I also called progressive yesterday and was told they will no longer insure bus conversions. I'm finding loads of info on here. Thanks everyone

I'm in florida. I'm reading the recent threads about insurance now

Welcome Capt.Joe,

We have a pretty solid contingent of skoolies in Florida. I am sure that they will have good advice regarding insurance.

Kudos for taking the time to use the search function and reading before asking questions that have already been answered.

Good luck on your adventure.

S.

Welcome. I was able to look at progressive online and they have an option (or so I thought) for RV (other), it had an option of bus conversion. I'll have to look again. I just filled in the year make and model of a bus I hope to win on auction...

Hello to a fellow Vista owner! THere are literally dozens of us!

Cool. I'm in Pensacola. Ours is a 7 window. I'll try to start a build thread. I bought it off a local church. Looks like it came from New Jersey. I can see where they removed the stickers.

welcome to the rat race... I used AIS commercial out of California for insurance.. must be commercial .. then when your conversion is complete you can get GOOD SAM...

Mine is a 5 window. Pretty short! Great if you want to park in front of starbucks between a BMW and a Prius. 7 windows should mean you have room for a shower.

Progressive wll write you a commercial policy for a bus, but you shouldn't mention that its being converted. Between when the conversion starts and when it is complete, nobody in Florida wants to insure you. When it's done, you will have a few optinos, many folks go with AIS and insure as an RV.

If you really need the coverage now, you can call a different progressive agent and inquire about a "commercial vehicle for personal use" policy, your bus is just a big van you can use to carry your groceries after all!
