image.jpgHi! My husband, Luke, and I and our 9 month daughter are future full timers! We bought a 1992 international amtran in May and are still working on the demo phase. We've got the seats out, floor up, and ceiling/insulation out. Next is wall panels and starting on a roof raise 😳
We're trying to work on getting a layout figured out but we're having trouble figuring out what to put over the wheel wells.. In the front we will have a couch and dinette over them and in the back one will have a set of bunks but we aren't sure what to put over the other one since the shower or toilet can't go over it. What did you guys put over your wheel wells? Most layouts I've seen have storage/closet over it. Thoughts?

Closet space is what I'd go with over that. Ours at least have somewhat less intrusive wheel wells than some of the other brands out there.

I have the same year and model bus. I'm a bit envious, as I don't have a high roof model and HAVE to raise the roof. Looks like you got an EXCELLENT bus.

I think we're going to end up doing a cabinet, hopefully it works out!
Yeah we found a pretty good bus, flew down to Pheonix to get one that didn't have any rust, definitely worth it! From the picture it looks like our roof is bumped up but over the cab is actually a step down. i think almost everyone that does a roof raise says you won't regret the extra work! Good luck!

Wall panels are tack welded under the windows. Cold chisel and a hammer for the old fashioned way or air chisel/cutting wheel if you don't feel like spending a day swinging a hammer

I was just up near there last weekend. Got a wonderful 30A RV spot in Blackwell Forest Preserve (2 days free for seniors once a year). I live just east of St Louis.

Hey there! I was born and raised in Chicago. I also have a 1993 genesis. I think you made a good choice.

My favorite trip (to date) east of Mississippi was to Chicago around 2000-2001 for a technical school conference I had to attend around the 4th of July.

I remember my instructor driving us around on the West Side of Chicago... It sure seemed like a sketchy area! I remember a Martin Luther King park in the area.

But down around Navy Pier... I had a freaking blast!!!

Oh it's the greatest city in the world ;) I love it fiercely though I now live in a polar opposite area, Marquette Michigan in the UP.

The west side can be a bit sketchy, the south IS sketchy, but after a while you learn where and where not to go. If you aren't afraid of hobos then there isn't too much to worry about. The gang bangers typically leave you alone if you aren't seeking out trouble
