Hi from Ohio!!! 8 kids, & 2 adults! This should be fun!

Thought I'd say hi! We're in Northeastern Ohio, just purchased a 1998 international 3800. We heard about this site from a guy on YouTube and had to check it out! My husband and I have a family of 8 kids and we're looking at RVs but none could fit all of us comfortably, I made a "joke" saying "let's just buy a bus and make it how WE want it, and after lots of research and watching for a good deal around us, here we are! I have to say the most frustrating part so far was getting it insured to go home. We finally got a commercial policy with Progressive but was warned that they will not insure it after conversion, unless it was professionally done, so any advice on that would be great! My husband is a diesel mechanic and we have a friend who is a certified builder that is being updated on the project. All we have done so far is the seats all pulled out and most the flooring ripped up. I will be on here a lot to do more research and see what all of you have to say about your experiences.
Thanks :)
Christina

Welcome,

We're in Akron with 6 kids and 2 adults. I am really looking forward to seeing your build. Have you decided how you will be setting up for that many people?

So far, we have 2 bunks, a queen, and 2 dinettes that will be short beds (5') but we are still building.

Hi from Galion, OH! We are insured through Allstate - Liability only.
We did the conversion and applied for insurance after it was titled as an RV. No pushback at all.

We are putting in 2 bunk beds, btw Walmart has the best mattresses but search for Truck Mattresses ( for a sleeper). Two built in button beds on opposite sides, and above each we are doing drop down beds. So during the day we have 2 couches, and at night bunk beds, a queen bed, and in the living area, a hide a bed, and are you ready? Hammocks! 2 going the width of the bus! 2 of the kids are only with us part time so we figured that their beds should be temporary and removable, the kids love this idea!

You're only a couple hours away (probably 3 by bus lol)...

FYI - Findley State Park in Wellington is a great place to go camping and is only an hour or so from you guys. We go camping there pretty much every summer.

That's awesome! Lol, I see. You have 5 boys! So do I! 3 step daughters. Apparently I can't make girls myself lol. 18 g, 12 b, 11 g, 10 b, 9 b, 7 g, 2 b, 1 b... All the fun ages lol.

My whole family can't seem to make girls... My parents have 9 grandkids and all are boys... even their 2 step-grandkids are boys. My boys are 19, 17, 14, 11, and 9.

Oh wow that's insane! My mom has 10 biological grandsons and 2 biological granddaughters... My brothers each had one girl and the rest boys. Lol, crazy how that works.

Hey! I live near DC but I went to Hiram College. I've got a lot of friends out that way; make it out there a couple of times a year.
