I just bought a 1998 international school bus. My 1st ever! Very excited to FINALLY be on my way but kinda scared at the same time. Tomorrow dredman is going with me to get it. I’ve followed him on YouTube for a lil while and am now friends. My 1st real life Skoolie friend!!! I believe I’ll be safe going up, getting the bus and bringing it back down with him. He is, after all, gonna help me with the build. So I’m curious what y’all think and if there’s any advice y’all can give me going forward.

dredman made me do all this

Howdy Leah...and WELCOME! --- you could not have done better than to conspire with Dredman. Great guy with lots of practical savvy. Tell him Tango said hello and that we have missed him here lately.

So SOMEBODY came up with a hairbrained scheme to climb into a vehicle with a complete stranger, drive 10 hours across 5 states to the Middle O' Nowhere, Virginia today, grab a room, pick up retired school bus Monday morning, drive back 14 hours (we know average speed in a school bus right?) to Birmingham and park it. What could go wrong?

So after hatching this plan Thursday night, we both decided this was a great idea - lucky for Leah, I am a SUCKER for hairbrained schemes.... and skoolies (the vehicles AND the people) But don't think I am doing this out of the kindness of my heart - as I do not have one. I have my sinister motives.
I made Leah agree to two things:
- She MUST sign up on Skoolie.Net, and introduce herself
- She must let me film the adventure and post on YouTube

HA!
Sucker!

So I will be filming today and tomorrow, most of which you will see after our return, but I would like to do a bit of live streaming (have yet to try that?) and see how that goes. The first stream is scheduled for 9:30 am Central

I may try to do more depending on how the 1st one goes. If you want future streams from this adventure you might need to subscribe to the channel to get notifications?

Wish us luck?

Our route? Hoover to Sussex County

Stay tuned, I guess she needs to start another thread about the bus?

How do, Miz Leah, and welcome to the wacky world of Skoolie!

It appears that, if we aren't twins, at least we're litter mates. I've the same model and vintage, AND she originated in Virginia, too.

Word of warning- until Christopher
(Cadillac Kid) tweaked the ECU for me when I was halfway from NH to TX, best I saw was @54 mph on level ground. Less climbing inclines...

Happy Trails, and happier mods!

I let him read what you wrote. We’ll be at the bus in the morning. I’m excited and a lil scared at the same time. I drive an 18 wheeler over the road and while I’ll sit about as high up as the truck, it’s different but I’m very happy he accepted when I asked if he wanted to go with.

Haz.matt.1960 Hi there! That’s pretty cool! I’m quite curious how fast it’ll go. I’ll definitely get it turned up before I quit trucking and am able to be in the Skoolie full time.

Nice to see Dredman back in action. I'm a big fan. He's like the COOLEST dude ever from southern Alabama.
I could listen to that dude talk for a whole day and not get tired of it.

Well said. I can’t even begin to express how thankful and happy I am you agreed to come on this lil adventure. You’ve given me so much more to think about in design and things I can do with it than I was already thinking about. I’m really looking forward to experiencing all that is ahead. Seeing your Skoolie in person was awesome! It really does have the feeling of “home” like I’m wanting for mine. Thank you for all the advice you’ve given me! I appreciate it more than you know!

I agree completely! He’s given me some really good advice and lots of things n ideas to think about above what I already was.

Leah I've been messing with busses since the mid 70's. Sounds like you have jumped in with both feet. That is the way to do it. Welcome to the forum.

Hi Leah!

Welcome. I am a newbie as of this month too! Haven't purchased a bus yet but just soaking up all the knowledge! Are you going to start an instagram or Youtube page? I'd love to watch your conversion if you are! I'm in SC so not too far away from VA! Hope it all goes well!!!
