New guy, been a lurker for a good bit, love all the builds that yall have been doing. Trying to start my own, having a bit of trouble and luck....

Bought a bus before I really new what I wanted 1997 international 54 seater, found that it is a bit too small for our needs. For the **** of it a bid on another bus on govdeals … and won it! 2000 international 72 seater with a dt466 7.6L 100k miles. Picked the new bus up last week and drove it ~700 miles from Alabama to Virginia.

Now I have 2 buses sitting at my house, sure that the neighbors think I'm a nut job. I have not started ripping and tearing yet, my energy has been focused on selling the first bus, and other possessions to pay for the new bus. I will start a build thread soon!

Welcome! --- And your neighbors are correct. Of course you are a "nut job"...why else would you be here?

“But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”

Honestly... this is kinda how it went.

I told myself that I will bid on this bus up to “X” dollars, “X” dollars came and it was not at the reserve... so I bid a bit more. Then another dude or dudette started biding at the 3 minute mark, resetting the timer (I dont know how they get away with that). So I figure I would bid a 25 here and there just to see what the reserve was.... yeah my last bid, WELL over what I wanted to pay, and the other dude stopped bidding.

I sat and watched the timer run out at about 1500 over... but I did get the bus I wanted, right size, engine in the front, ZERO rust (that I can see), has a back door, no side door to mess with, runs real good (small transmission leak that I will need to fix), and lowish miles.

Not complaining at all, I did spend more than I wanted, but my mind is racing with all the things I am going to do to her...and she is gonna like it :)

If a rig is "right"...a few extra bucks up front will save you a ton in time, money & headaches as you build. Congrats!

Can't begin to tell you how many "super sweet deals" I've seen turn into nightmares. They were just about all dirt cheap for a reason.

Thanks Tango... we were trying to go cheap, and the wife has scolded me a few times, but we are planning on living in this thing one day so the little extra might be for the good.

i did just order some ospho preemptively for the floor based on what i have been reading here!!
