I really enjoy this site! thank you

I have been reading the schoolie coversion threads, and some of the threads crash my pc, others dont.

I use I.E. and sometimes its the first post of a thread such as viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3981

other times its deep into the thread and only on one page, if I can get to the next page no problems...

the problem is always the same I get a non descriptive explore error pop up box and then explorer tries to reload the page, this happens about 3 times then I get sent to a website restore error page.

this is kinda a bummer lol any ideas?

Reinstall IE. Otherwise it sounds like a computer issue. The only thing I noticed about that page is that its graphic intensive. If your computer is more than a year old and you use it alot, you might need to reinstall the main Operating System. You should use a fixer program or two first.

I install and uninstall stuff all the time, I mean, A LOT. Even with using defrag'rs like "Diskeeper" (full version of what's included in WinXP, which is a degraded basic version) and fixer programs like "Advanced System Care", I still have to reinstall my OS somewhere between 6 months - 1 Year. Just make sure that you back up your data before you wipe any drives... :D

I dont think I even have a n OS disk around lol...I purchased this pc with xp already on it..oh well I will just skip those threads that dont work I guess.

Your computer should have come with a restore disk. If nothing else, I am sure that your computer has a sticker with the xp code on it. You should have a friend who has an XP disk, or you can contact the manufacturer for install disks.

Home or Pro?

its was a $300.00 ebay thing...I could probably find a torrent or a old disk or something I just really really hate messing with the OS...if its not broke I try not to fix it, and one website that has minor flaky issues is not really worht doing a os reset which may or may not fix anything...not to me anyway.

No biggie I just thought mabey it was a common thing here and just needed to change a setting or something...or might be something for the saff to lookinto.
I dont really care to trouble shoot it...to many years of working on computers for a living I guess...

Thanks though

I agree with that sentiment 100%.

However, according to your own words, it is broke.

My best guess is that you've got some kind of memory allocation problem. Firefox, for all the great things about it, is a memory hog. Loading a lot of graphics in a web browser is memory intensive as well. You might want to download memtest86 and run it on your machine for a while. Bad memory can appear to work quite well for a while and do really really strange things.

Years ago, we had a financials mini computer that had bad memory. It took almost a month to track down the cause. The symptoms were that some programs wouldn't run, other programs would run then crash, and once in a while a file got corrupted. During that month, several of the program files got corrupted. Eventually, the vendor sent a tech to do full hardware testing, and discovered the bad memory, and replaced it. We then had the fun of finding all the corruption. We were able to restore the OS and programs from a known good copy (it is good when all the sites run the same system), but we had to go through the database data record by record, and it wasn't fun.

I believe whatever is broke with your computer will just get worse until eventually you have to fix it. It might only be a software glitch, but without diagnosing the problem you'll never know.

just my two cents,
jim

Hehe yeah I guess so, but glitching on 1 out of 100 webpages is not really my idea of broke..just a quirk.

Could be bad memory but I think it could just be a lack of enough memory since I have less than 1gig and have lots of crap running. could be the 4 layers of dust too I guess

Anyway I think we have established its probably my pc and not this site...since no one else seems to have the same trouble..
