Hey everyone, questions about factory tinted windows.

The bit of research I’ve done so far is that y’all seem to covet these and well, I really loathe them! I’d much prefer to pick and choose my tinting and heat control as I love a light flooded room, and especially in a small skoolie I think I’m going to really need that natural light and openness. I have a 30 ft bluebird so, 9 windows on each side, black as night.

Anyone looking for factory tinting that wants to trade windows?

Otherwise, is this a giant nightmare I’m getting myself into to replace them? HALP.

If you can find somebody who is getting rid of a full set of the same type (or size) of windows (which is not impossible since a lot of people buy buses and then toss the windows) then it's no big deal at all. A standard part of a good skoolie build is to pull all the windows out anyway and clean them and reinstall with seam sealer, so it wouldn't really be additional work.

Click on User CP in the upper left and fill out your profile details, and then people will always know where you're from and what sort of bus you have.

FWIW I hear you about the tinting. I'm keeping all my windows and I would prefer that they not be tinted, but it's too much trouble for me to swap them all even if I could find a full set, and there are some advantages (like privacy and reflection of sunlight) to having tinted windows. Three of my windows are cracked right now, and it's cool that you can't see the cracks from the outside because of the tinting.

I have tinted in my RedByrd and love them but that’s not a bus I hang out in, I drive it and often have riders (pre CoVID).

My dev bus has all clear windows and for hot weather I put up roller screens like they use for babies and I hated how dark it was.. I love the bright light.. I added an extra 50,000 btu air conditioner so I could keep the clear windows and still be cool in 100 plus weather..

Too bad you are in Cali.. we just took a whole bluebird bus apart a few weeks ago and the guy was wondering what to do with the windows.. but that’s in Ohio and you are in Cali..

Can the tint be scrapped off? Putting in a skylight would give you plenty of light, lots of roof space on a 40ft bus, and make it open too, you can climb up to roof deck from the inside.

My shuttle bus has pretty dark tinted windows, I agree that it isn't really what you want in a house, however, they are much too low for a house, because you know these are buses for people to sit in, not motorhomes..
