I won a bus

I'm crying. I thought this day would never come. Our little 01marc got his own bus.

I'm glad you finally have something else to do too. Happy for you. It looks pretty nice.

I didn't see food and drinks in your get home budget. I always get very dehydrated on those high stress drives. Now, drive it like it's stolen.

maybe he eats like me on the road... a couple powerade zero's, a pack of reeses cups, and a diet mountain dew and im good for 1000 miles..

Sounds like you've got all the major synthetic foods covered there. That was me too most of the time, but now I feel a lot better with a, let's call it high fibre, diet. If I'm taking a road trip I still load up on junk food to eat on the trip, but I pay for it later.

I've been used to long trips the last few years. 4 trips to Orlando area, 1- 28hr trip to Palm Springs, 2 trips to OKC, 4 trips to Ct., 3 to Bonneville, and 2 to Ohio. All of them nonstop except for fuel. The palm Springs trip was in my Dakota, left north Ga. on Tues. morning at 9am and was at my sisters door in Indio, west of Palm Springs, at 10am Wed. 2 roast beef sandwiches and a can of Pringles and I'm good. Usually when I go Ct. I usually leave home around 9pm and drive through the night till arriving around noon. 926 miles in this bus should be a piece of cake if all goes well.

PIECE OF CAKE!

On the other hand I like buying buses close to home. Like your experience, the right buses aren't nearby when you want them to be. They show up close to home when it's completely inconvenient in my experience.

o1mark, Congratulations!!! Can’t wait to hear about the road trip back home. Of course all of us will be looking forward to the build. 🎉🎊🍾

Im sure my holy grail for $1500 will show up tomorrow now that i've shot my wad. And it'll be local on CL.:banghead:

You've been shopping for a bus for so long you won't be able to stop looking.

I was hoping you'd get one of the Beaverton buses but that would have been a very long drive home. And yeah, your bus has the good shifter in it.

That would be an awesome road trip. Drive down rt. 1 and pick up I-10 through the warmer south. A few side sight seeing trips. It would take me a soild two weeks to make it back to SC. To bad my pocket book says :nonono:

Finally guy! What concerns me is how much oil and coolant it leaks, but most importantly that it hasn't been started in 11 months. It sounds like it has an old school C7 in it. Same engine the U.S. military still likes to use in platforms like the stryker.

Good luck on your drive!

They said they had it running the other day. Ran good, we'll see.
Fleet service manager that is intimate with this bus is suppose to call me tomorrow with details on maintenance records and the fluid issues. Gaskets and hoses I can deal with. I want to do a quality build so will budget in professional help when i'm in over my head.

Well this sucks. The school called and said they can't get my bus started. Barely turns over, but won't crank and fire. I told them to do what needs to be done to get it started because I paid for a running bus and am not coming out to pick it up until it is. Bus was removed from service at age out in jan 2017, it sat for a year. If they can't get it running in the next day I'll try and cancel the transaction and be back at the drawing board. Hmm, 4 Crowns in Ca.

if its an electronic engine, most of them have a minimum RPM before the computer will let them fire.. chances are the batteries sitting (probably dead) for a year have one or more bad cells so even a jump wont spin the starter fast enough to let the computer allow it to fire.. . not to mentioned the diesel fuel thats over a year old...

sounds like they need to pop a couple good batteries in, a half a bottle of Diesel 911, maybe a fuel filter element and give it a spin...

What is a proper battery for starting these buses? I can pay for a couple of batteries at my local O'Reilly's and have the OKC store deliver them to the bus yard?

Do you know how many batteries are installed & what kind of posts ?

My Bluebird carries 3 x group 31 batteries with threaded studs but it does vary by bus.

Ya, O'Reily says they are a group 31-5. $114 ea. Just need to know if the posts are top post or threaded. I'll find that out when they call back.I can have the local store deliver batteries there.
