I won a bus

Well this just sucks. I'm in the hospital having stents put in. Came in yesterday hoping to go home today. But they had to take me off the blood thinner before doing the procedure, takes 2 days. So I'm laid up in this dang hospital bed, till Monday, where they are taking blood every 3 hours and no one knows how to stick a needle right the first time. Getting old sucks.watch your transfat intake. I told the Dr. I need to fly out Wed. to get my bus. He assured me I could get a refund on my airfare. I assured him I will be on time.

I had to take care of this now, one, because it's serious blockage that could kill me, and two, before I came in here the symptoms were kicking my ass over anything strenuous. I got real concerned when the symptoms hit at 3AM while I was sleeping. If I had waited there's no way I could do what needs done stripping a bus out next week.

Gotta take care of yourself before you can take care of the bus. Hope you are feeling much better and able to do what you want again SOON.

My brother is a PA (physicians assistant, a Dr. without the credentials or liability) He tells me right after the procedure i'll be good to go with no symptoms. right now I'm just a pin cushion every 2 hours until Mon.

Group 31s usually run $500 each.

Looks like you'll have to turn a hose loose on the inside of that find.

There is no way I would ever willingly pay $500 each for group 31 batteries. I would expect to get four of them for that price.

I'm not starting a locomotive engine, I don't need that much cold cranking amps. A pair does fine for my T444E, though there's room for 3 in the box.

Local battery shop has 'em for about $70 each. So what if they don't last as long as the $500 ones? I can buy several sets of them for the $500 price, and I'm betting the life expectancy between the cheaper ones and pricey ones won't really be all that different.

thats me!! and with the wild temperature swings I put batteries through, my guess is the expensive ones dont last very long either.. I travel all over the place... im up north in winter where its 10 below and my bus doesnt have a block heater so im starting on the batteries.. and then im often in the 100+ degree weather of texas in summer.. running heaters, A/C, lights ,etc. id rather have low cost batteries that if they fail out on the road I dont have to find the expensive store i bought them at to replace em.. low cost batteries, i get new ones and toss the old.. my old ones were close to 5 years old.. lowest end batteries plus batteries the school could buy.. I could nearly 2 winters and one hot summer oiut of them myself .. if I get 2 years out of my $57 batteries ill be happy..

I'm a firm believer that not all battery brands are the same quality and priced accordingly. Idon't know where you're getting yours that they're $500. I paid $113ea for 2 group 31-5T batteries from O'Reilly's, some found Walmart batteries in the $85 range.
Most pics I see of the inside dashes on buses at most auctions look as though the left the doors open during a dust storm, this one is no different.

O'Reilly's here don't stock Group 31s. NAPA does and around $500. Batteries Plus goes for $549.00 (!)

Congrats on the new bus. Here's a salvage source in GA for ya:

It may take a few times to get hold of him but persistence will pay off.
I'm thinking I need to make a run to his place as well.

Where is here, Billings? Granted there is no O'Reilly's in Billings, but the other 3 local stores all stock the Group 31-5T. 4 in Clever, 18 in Republic, and 3 in Aurora. It's common stock item there. They run $113.99 with a $20 core charge.
I just checked NAPA and they carry 15 different Group 31 batteries from $80- $260, none in the $500 range.

Been there, cool place. They weren't open the day I went, but I was able to walk the yard. More of an eclectic museum of sorts. They wanted $250 for a rear door off a wrecked bus, I passed and probably won't be back. At least not to buy anything, but to check out all the art buses i missed when I went.

Check it out:

I think he found out someone was screwing him on batteries. Embarrassment is a hell of a thing for some people.

Heal quick. That bus is itching to burn up the roads once again.

Seems I'm not going to be out of the hospital in time to make my flight. No one is cutting me any slack for medical condition, al they care about is raping us for money. They first wanted an extra $200 to change to a flight that require me to leave the house at 8AM, fly to Orlando for a 16.5hr layover (requiring a hotel room cost) and then leaving Orlando at 6AM the following day to OKC. If I wanted the next flight with the same travel times as before, 12:35AM to DFW, 40 minute layover and then into OKC at 3:35pm, they wanted another $385 or a total of $705, so much for a cheap flight. Now I'm trying to just refund the original and book another flight with my times for Wed. or Thurs. for $408. Sucks to me right now.:ermm:

I was a pilot and dealt with some crazy crap when doing fairy work or hot shot cargo. I'm glad I never got into flying for an airline. Those places suck and they rip people off because they know time is money to most people flying. You're stuck when it comes to airlines. Pay to fly or drive away instead. If at all possible, I'll never fly commercial in the US or Canada.

I'd rather take a boat to go overseas anyway.

If I knew for fact more about the bus I would just drive out there and spend an extra day putting on a hitch and tow bar and hauling the Dakota home.

I did just that with both Elf Bus as Dory just because I did not know anything about them. At least you have site transportation if something goes wrong. The bumper are strong enough for a hitch as long as you take an angle bracket on the backside. see pics in elfie and dory thread.

Ben2go, I am in the aircraft business but I much rather drive then fly.

Good luck J
