Good afternoon,

We recently transformed a school bus into an ice cream bus, but unfortunately, I made a mistake in properly insulating the bus. As a result, we now have a bus that gets very hot. We are seeking suggestions for the best ways to stay cool while we are on our routes in Northern California, especially considering today's scorching temperature of 109 degrees. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

in an ice cream truck configuration doesnt your bus run most of the time? or do you g oto events where you park and sell at say festivals and such? you should have good factory Bus A/C for when the engine is running if you are driving around neighborhoods selling Ice cream...

are you venting your coolers to the outside? if you are using refrigeration machines onboard for making ice, keeping ice cream frozen etc its imperative to make sure you vent these so the heat isnt sent into the bus.. there are plenty of 15000 BTU rooftop units which can help you stay cool when parked if your generator is big enough to handle starting and stopping them.. you likely wont get a cold bus when in the sun with the serving window open but you could at least blow cool air on yourself.. in 110 degree weather having your roof painted White is also imperative it well help allow any A.C you install to not just suck in heat off the roof.. the more heat your A/C can expel outside the cooler you are inside..

In addition to what the Kid said you could spray foam on your rooftop. My neighbor did this on his metal roof. It looks like snow on the roof. That might look good on an ice cream truck!

I think the foam is different from regular ol spray foam. I know the paint on top has its own spec and needs painting every 4 years.
