IH CE-SB Conversion begins

It's mine, all mine, and once the HCU on the brake system is replaced and I get it registered and I can drive it to where I will work on it. 2008 IC CE model SB. 131k miles, in great shape, very well maintained (current on Mass and DOT inspection).

And I know this was meant to be. The bus number is #69. Can't beat that. LOL! :biggrin:

BTW, if you know anyone who needs 20 school bus seats in excellent to fair condition, they are free but they have to remove them.

Step 1 completed, got Commercial Vehicle for Personal Use insurance, liability only, from Progressive Insurance, 12 months, $98/month, maximum travel 100 miles from my home. This now allows me to register in Mass. and work on it.

The plan later on is to get it insured with State Farm as a motorhome when the project is complete, and change the registration to suit.

Now I have to register and title it, then take the plates to the lot so that the mechanic can get it over to their shop to bleed the brakes after installing a replacement HCU unit, which was the only problem with the bus, and for which I negotiated a lower price with the seller.

I like the window box for the school bus sign. That would look cool with your road handle in there lit up with LED perimeter reflecting tape lights!

The road handle will be the "NYÓ-Mobil". It's a reference to my blueberry vegan hot sauce, you can see it here on my Shopify website. At some point I will need to find someone who can make a giant wrap for the bus with blueberries and hotter-n-hell peppers all over it. LMAO! (The sauce is mild, it just reminds you it could kill you, just not today.)

Are you a team or lone? Seat removal is best done with help. Also, the words, "Help me remove a few of these seats" are a great way to run off lookyloos, nosey family, and would-be friends. Welcome to the insanity.

BTW, if you get the Progressive Insurance policy and you get the same 100 mile radius (or whatever you can negotiate with them), you can use this web site to draw a circle on top of a google map centered on your home and remind you how far you can travel before you're on your own.

Just a little bit of drama. The insurance agent said that after they quoted it, Progressive's commercial insurance partner said they would not cover it. I don't think he understood the real issue, because I turned around and got the policy at a lower price by contacting Progressive directly. It turns out that my VIN was not showing up in one system, and was in another. She said it was ok, she would just make a note in my record that I needed to send the title by fax to confirm the VIN. So I got a better price, a discount on my motorcycle policy with them ($3.97, woohoo!) and one fax send later everyone ended up happy. Same 100 mile radius of coverage but that's fine for me.

I thought an IC CE school bus build sheet would tell me the size of my fuel tank. Apparently. mine doesn't, or else my eyeballs are worse than I thought. Anyone else see the fuel tank info?

maybe it only shows if its non standard.. 60 gallon is the standard tank on the full length CE300s. it very well could be the fuel tank size is integrated into the frame rail kit specified so you wont see it broken out.



100 gallon was optional on the full length busses.

Apparently 100 gal means another tank further back on the bus. I wonder if I can buy one of those second tanks. It would mean good news for my plan to install a diesel genset.

There were 100 gallon tanks made on IC busses I’ve seen them .. but not on a CE only one an FE or RE. I’m thinking you could probably unbolt the cage and tank from another bus and mount it further back. You’d have to determine how the tanks would pull or share fuel.

Oh, if I could mount a secondary tank without having to make radical mods I would use it to fuel a genset in the rear of the bus, and keep a manual transfer pump around if I needed that fuel for the engine.

as long as you use it up regularly all is good.. my dad put an aux tank in our IH scout.. he put it above the original tank.. so he would fill the main scout tank then fill the aux tank. the aux tank drained into the main.. so the fuel always got used..



his buddy put in another tank with a manual pump and valve up front to switch which fuel pump was on.. he never used the aux fuel.. for apparently a good while.. till he ran out of diesel on a 4 wheeling trail.. flipped on the aux tank.. made it almost back to the trail head a couple miles and the scout stopped dead.. fuel filters clogged to the hilt.. so of course he thought whatever abd being prepared.. changed the fuel filters along the trail.. and another 3 miles later his scout died.... well you get the idea...


when he told dad the fuel was old.. we pumped some fresh fuel from our aux tank into his scout main tank and usaed our extra set of fuel filters in his scout which got him going..



reason #893 to always 4 wheel in caravans of multiple vehicles.. and to make sure you use up your aux fuel on a regular basis
