Can the VIN tell you what engine and tranny combo is in it? I'm looking a bus that the seller is not very educated on. He thinks it's a Cummins, but doesn't know much more than that. I am avoiding Cummins 5.9 with a 545.
It's a 2002 Thomas Freightliner, VIN# 4UZAAXBW52CJ73022

I'm pretty sure this was a front engine bus. Did they put 5.9 Cummins in rear engine buses?

Not normally. Transmission type isn't coded into any VIN #s I've seen.

Dealers can tell you though, and post '92, Blue Bird's site should tell you.

I know the vehicle was identified as incomplete, but it had the transmission in it as an incomplete vehicle. It's strange that they aren't listed with the engine on a vin search.

An "incomplete vehicle" is the VIN for the chassis, engine, transmission and controls when it is delivered to a body-builder to have the body attached.

This designation applies to all buses where the chassis is supplied to the bus company.

Prior to the launch of the Saf-T-Liner it applied to all Thomas buses as they didn't build chassis.
