Hi! My boyfriend and I are interested in building a skoolie! Exciting I know. Unfortunately, we both live in Maryland. Does anyone know if you need any special licensing to drive a skoolie in Maryland? Or any information on converting the tittle to a different vehicle class? We've been trying to figure it out but keep finding conflicting information. Another layer of issue is I only have a provisional license and won't have a full Maryland state license for another year and my boyfriend only has a learners permit. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide (or for at least reading).

I used to live in MD 3 years ago. You technically need a non commercial class b license, but no one could tell me how to get one. I just drove on my normal license. For tag and registration I went to a local 3rd party tag and license place and let them figure it out. It may have been a little more expensive, but it worked. Here's my thread that lists the insurance agent I used back then. Beware they only insured certain buses. I would make sure you can get insurance before even looking at a bus.

Good luck

im assuming you have provisional license because you are young, be sure to look into insurance thoroughly as many insurers are going to charge you astronomical rates if you are under 21 and many wont insure you at all for an RV at that age.

(your aim is to build and get yuor skoolie registered and titled as an RV, thus the drivers license requirements are much less stringent than if you keep it titled / registered as a bus)
