Looking at the best options to install my inverter/charger. I have 2 underbody toolboxes installed side by side. Thinking 3 house batteries in one and inverter in the other. Would the batteries be better inside steel or aluminum box? Battery box will be vented. Do I need to vent the inverter or add a fan to the box for cooling?

Yes, inverter needs venting and a path for fresh air to come in as well. Inverters can get hot and often already have a built in fan, but that's assuming it's in an open space, if you put it in a box, ensure it has good ventilation.

I have my inverter inside the hallway. It definitely warms the area up next to it. They also make a lot of noise. If you have a place to put them outside of the sleeping area I would do that.

My inverter is back in my unconditioned garage, i did give it its own roof vent fan for the hot days. If you stick it in a toolbox, you might add an intake or exhaust fan on the back of the toolbox to circulate air.

You can use a ventilation duct if sealed to the inverter so it has a clear channel for ventilation.

The point is so cool air can flow through the inside of the inverter to keep the components cool. If it doesn't have ventilation, it will warm the air in the compartment, and then circulate only warm air and it will increasingly get hotter and hotter til a fire starts potentially.
