Is this a good bus to convert?

I am looking at converting a sweet 1972 Mercedes D309 bus that came from Germany. Has anyone got experience with converting these? Is $15,000 CDN an insane price to pay for the bus before any conversions? It is in excellent shape, but...

MB's have a very good reputation but personally I would avoid one at almost any price. Parts are many times the $ of any other unit...only a tiny handful of techs can work on them...and coming direct from Germany, Lord only knows if anything on it is available on this side of the pond.

For $15K US, you can either buy a decent used RV or build an outstanding Skoolie that parts & service are available on anywhere on the Continent.

These are considered classic collectables, that's why the price is so high. They're fetish items.
I've always wanted one, but I'm the kind of guy who used to drive aircooled VW's. More of a van than a bus, IMO.

I'd probably get something more modern for racking up the miles.

Mercedes Benz own Thomas Built, so I'm guessing the parts for the Thomas Mercedes engines are readily available, if a little expensive.

Not sure about units of that age though.
