So we looked at our first school bus today and it was a great experience. The inside of the bus was extremely clean and looked well maintained.

The only thing that has us worried is the rust on the undercarriage.

Let me know what you guys think. Should we keep looking or seriously think about this one?:Thanx:

I was trying to identify the engine from the VIN number and came up with CUMMINS ISB can someone verify that?

Here are the stats:
Model: BlueBird
Year: 2000
Mileage: 84K

2 minute Rust Video

We have more photos and videos if you guys need it

I don't think it looks too bad. Mine is about the same if not worse.

Looks like surface rust. A trick I used when looking at jeeps (notorious for frame rot around here due to road salt) is bring a big flat head screwdriver... Give any suspicious spots a poke. Should be solid. If there is "give" or you go through... Run. Lol

That rust doesn't look too terribly bad.

If it's a Cummins, it's definitely an ISB. Blue Bird never front mounted an 8.3 in the TC series, and the last year the 6BT was produced was 1998.

Huh, I've seen very few TC1000s without wheelchair lifts.

Looks good for its age, and I like the low miles. There was a guy on Chicago craigslist asking $3K for a bus pretty much identical to this one except for the fact that it needed a new motor :nonono:

Kinda sucks that it doesn't have air brakes but I could live with hydraulic brakes since it's a smaller chassis.

Well after sleeping on it I really can't find any real reason not to pick this one up.

Didn't think I would fall for the first bus I met haha

You're gonna have surface rust....

If it bugs ya too bad, get a garden sprayer with some diesel in it. No, I'm not advocating getting diesel on the ground... But it sure coats the metal, then you'll have dust & dirt settling on the diesel:oops:

(I did not do anything to the metal in these two pics)

Well we've decided to make an offer hopefully we can work something out. If we get it I'll post a link to our build thread. Thanks to everyone who chimed in :)

It's funny, I ended up buying the first one I found too. The funny part is I bought it after looking at other buses for about 4 months after I first found it. So, from my point of view, you just saved yourself a ton of time that I didn't. Haha

Congrats on the bus, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
