I’m looking at a front engine bus. Listing says it is an 8.9L Cummins but a photo of a tag inside the bus says ISB215. I called in and he said it is definitely a C Series motor. Best I can tell they never put an 8.9L Cummins in the front. Have any of you ever heard of an 8.9L EF bus?

Meanwhile seller and listing says 8.9l. Even a free vin decoder says it has an 8.9l in it. So I question the photo that’s says ISB215. The photo is not of the engine plate. That photo also contains a transmission model “AD2500”. Additionally seller checked transmission for me and said it is a 3000 series which conflicts with the photo. Not sure what to believe.

Call the dealer, give them the vin number and ask if they have a build sheet for it.

If guy was typing out "5.9" on a 10-key keypad, then "8" would be directly over the "5", meaning that it is entirely likely it was a fat-fingered mistake, and is also the sort of thing that wouldn't wind up with either a red line or a blue line underneath it, since it's just numbers, and numbers are "never wrong" according to the automatic error-checkers built into a typing app of any kind.

I thought the same thing, then I called the dealer who sells buses on the regular and he was very confident it was a C series motor.

Sounds like you are dealing with a flipper who relies on what the auction web site posted, not from knowing what he/she has. Real serial numbers don't lie. Someone posting pictures not from the actual bus is a red flag for me.

Is posting the listing out of the question?

Bluebird all american had some ISC in their front engine flat nose buses and TC2000 had some 6CT in their older model variants with the taller doghouses. The ISL is a stroked ISC and is just a bit taller but i havent seen those any buses other than city buses with a rear engine. Sweet engine and i have often wondered if i could swap my 5.9 for an ISL if i raise my doghouse..

ISB215 would be a 5.9 with 215hp. Why not go look at the bus yourself and see what is actually under the hood? If to far away, ask for photos of the engine and transmission data plate.

I did some more digging and calling and was able to confirm it has a 5.9L Cummins. The seller was incorrect. I ended up winning the auction, yea! The journey begins i suppose!

Great! The 5.9 is a respectable engine with lots of aftermarket support. Have fun on your new project.

I have an ISB225 and while i would love more, its safe and fun to drive and you will get good fuel economy with that engine. Im really only slow on mountain passes and 10mph difference for a mile isnt worth the trouble of changing anything.
