ISO Double Decker

Hi, I’m looking for a Double Decker bus to live in full time (gutted, converted, or not) I want to convert it myself. I’m in Oregon, but I could potentially have it towed/ transported if you have one that’s in a different state.

*I don’t want to drive it, so it does not need to be in working condition*

Do you have one in mind? Because double decker buses are uncommon in USA. MegaBus runs some VanHool double decker coaches on certain routes predetermined to have clearance for the coach height. In the 70s NASA had a small fleet of NeoPlan SkyLiners which were used on private property so didn't have to comply with height regulations. London's iconic red double deckers are so symbolic a few have managed to cross the pond but again were used on select routes and often required special permitting. Since you're saying you don't want to drive it anyways I understand these aren't concerns for you but they are factors determining how available an actual double decker bus will be. Knowing that the sacrifice for any double decker bus is ceiling height, I would almost think that building a bus-shaped two-story structure and finishing it to look like a bus would be faster, cheaper, and more comfortable for your needs. You could scale it up just enough that it isn't obviously too big to be an actual bus but once you step inside you're not hitting your head constantly.

Horse before Cart or Next Step?

This sounds like a neat idea. Like the homes built from retired airplanes, ships, and traincars. Some collectors move old buildings to create a little town on their estate.

Lots of skoolie and rec vehicle owners park on a 10'x40' slab of concrete or limerock (with or without rain cover). Most with power & water. I used limerock under our trailer rv, 6x6s under our shipping containers.

Do you already have your site cleared with power & water? We hand trenched all of the power & water on our farm. We removed several trees, by hand, for a new, straight (lumpy) driveway. Also converted a barn to a residence. All, long before we decided to buy a bus to convert.

We are very proud of our hard work. Please, tell us more about your site plan. What have you accomplished, so far?

Some folks (even parents of us adult kids) may think that we ought not drive a skoolie as a daily driver. Drive a car, they say. Oh, well. That which brings happiness to one soul, may not make sense to another. I'm sure you can relate, somehow, CK.

Your place sounds awesome! I’m just getting started looking for land in Oregon.. I would ideally like it to be off-grid, so I’m looking in to solar, rain harvesting, and bud conversion all at once!
