I have just begun researching and can't wait to find a bus and start. Trying to research plans and electrical and water tank placement. Well and just general layout. I like the main sleeping quarters in the rear just trying to figure out the rest. Can anybody explain how to use c composting toliet? I have read how it work but was is the process and how do you empty and where. Thanks for the help.

I just ordered the c-head. Plan to empty once a week and dispose in the regular trash can for pickup in a sealed container. Urine will be fertilizer.

Howdy and welcome civilwar1969!

Firstly, I am not a composting toilet user so not an expert.

If your question about "where do you empty" is one of legality, I suspect you'll find some confusing answers. In general and in most places in the USA, dumping fecal matter in the "garbage" is not allowed/legal. It has to go into a "sewage facility." That is constantly debated (especially when it comes to diapers). Urine is different. This BLM document might help (but only addresses BLM land, of course).

The primary purpose of a "composting toilet" is to create "compost". If that process is allowed to occur (time), then the material is no longer "fecal matter" and the disposal question changes.

There are those that say that one person putting a few days of poo in a hole in the ground where they are camping is no big deal. I agree. However; a thousand people doing the same thing in the same area kinda changes my view of that. I suspect that is the view that the BLM/NFS has had to take as well - not sure.

Not an easy question to answer. :whistling:

Litter box for humans, does seem like it , great way to put it.

I will use a black tank and empty at places intended for it, so it will get treated properly, rather then throwing it in other peoples garbage.

If you have a home base you can take it home and compost it OR you can bury it in the field (not near a body of water!) so that there are at least 6" of dirt on the top. The depth of the hole will depend on the quantity of organic material to be buried. Poop, paper products, food, and sawdust are ok. Don't include anything plastic or at all iffy.
