Hi all! I bought my bus 11 days ago and have stripped out seats and flooring so far. Looking to make it a permanent home for me and my 3 cats. Currently based in Tacoma, WA.
My bus is a 2000 Blue Bird. She's 28' long and has the 24v Cummins and Alison transmission. I lucked out and she only had 61k miles when I picked her up. She's pretty solid - a few dents, dings, and rust, as should be expected - but nothing insurmountable yet.
I've been posting a play by play on Facebook and Instagram under then handle LiddyBus, which is a play on the LiddyBug that the teardrop was. My username here is a hold over from that era when I was on the teardrop forum here.
About me - about 20 years ago I built a teardrop for my senior project in high school. At that time, I had wanted to pick up a canned ham or something similar to make into a mobile dorm room... but it was cost prohibitive and I ended up going to college in Boston so it wouldn't have worked anyway. 750 hours and $2k later though, I had my ladybug teardrop and hit the road. Fast forward through the last 20 and I've since sold the tear, renovated 4 homes, assisted with other renos, and feel its time to put all that knowledge into a bus. I don't have anything holding me in Tacoma, so its time to go.
Looking forward to picking brains on this - there is no hurdle we can't overcome with good support. If the Skoolie forum is anything like the Teardrop forum, I know you'll all be invaluable!
Pictures included - sunset on the drive home, selfie after dropping the wood and rubber from the floor off at the dump, and the wet insides after applying a rust eater. Will be sealing the steel tomorrow before building the floor up again.
