Looking to get started in CA. Need help please!

Van is pretty cool. I drive a panel van daily.
Congrats and please show your build on here. I'd love to see more van folks on here.

We are going to track this in as much detail as possible. Actually, we finished organizing the drive

That is our public folder. Will keep it updated with everything we do and get for the van. My wife is organizing a spreadsheet which will track all our purchases and expenditures. Will also update with links to resources we used and found helpful as well as anything we run into like legal, mechanical, electrical, etc.

With that said, I do have a question. The bus came with this little knob under the steering wheel. Previous owner said it has something to do with tuning the van for high, low, eco, driving. I have no idea what it is but if I turn it up all the way the van stalls and it makes different noises when I turn it idling.

Can anyone tell me what this is and how to use it?

sounds like an ICP fooler to me.. a "poor man's" tuner for the 7.3 was to fool the ICP into running higher HPOP pressure.. (the 7.3 is an excellent motor.. however you will want ot learn as much as you can about its electronics and the HEUI system.. it will save you headaches and $$ in the future if it ever acts up)..

anyway.. im only guessing on the "device" under the steering wheel.. there were many sold.. they effectively change the resistance of the sensor when you turn the knob.. they dont often cause stalling..(they can turn on the check engine light) but they can definitely increase the "growling" of the motor and it may increase power, although there are decidedly better ways to "soup up" a 7.3 then that..

you can play with it as you drive..

looks like a great van! im a fan of the 7.3 Diesel. (and its Navistar counterpart the 444E)

That is very helpful and sounds likely, thanks!

Number one priority right now is to fix a few issues and get our power setup in. After that, we will look into the fooler and see what it would take to swap it with a modern tuner.
