I drove mine 30 miles home with a flat rear dually and a dead alternator, though I didn't know about that at the time. Maybe bring along water for the radiator, a gallon of oil and a can of brake fluid. I had all that, a jack, a tow strap and a good tool set. No plates or insurance either
I didn't need any of it but it kept the paranoia level down.
The glow plugs in many diesels can detonate starting fluid. Best to leave that home.
