I drove mine 30 miles home with a flat rear dually and a dead alternator, though I didn't know about that at the time. Maybe bring along water for the radiator, a gallon of oil and a can of brake fluid. I had all that, a jack, a tow strap and a good tool set. No plates or insurance either I didn't need any of it but it kept the paranoia level down.

The glow plugs in many diesels can detonate starting fluid. Best to leave that home.

Well i got it almost home. It is currently sitting on the side of the road 15 miles from the house. I think i have a stuck thermostat causing it to overheat, I shut it down before it got too hot and i killed my battery running the heater pump and fans trying to cool it off. Charging the battery now and i am going to pull the thermostat out and get it home without it. So far my morning has been an adventure.

Time to buy some RTV broke the seal and it feels like there is 2 thermostats in the housing. Leaks too much attempt to limp it the rest of the way.

Honestly it ran like a monster until i shut it down to be safe and i called the shop foreman and he said it probably is a stuck thermostat or a air bubble from sitting a year. Also i am proud to report i only clipped one curb coming out of a gas station. Leaving in an hour with a fresh battery to see what i can do.

I may be half way to a diesel certified mechanic after today! Joking aside she has a few quirks and gremlins but nothing crazy. I'm gonna start by replacing the thermostats and go from there. Also the hydro fan never kicked on when it got warm so that also didnt help. Could be a sensor but i dont know. The bus feels really strong and i even got it to 75 on a long flat in 5th, 6th is locked of course. Cool perk it came with a train horn!

Glad you made it home OK - what part of GA are you in, and where did the bus come from??

I'm down in Brunswick, and am just finished demolition and starting with my build.

Bus came from Forsyth, Monroe county. I live just to the north in Monticello.

I think i either got a really good one or i got a problem child. But she made it after all after sitting for over a year. Only paid $1785 total for it so i could always scrap it and get my money back.

I will make a an official build post soon but i got it situated in my driveway finally that makes the most sense for working on it. Got all four belly doors open with some brute force and some lube spray. I don't think they had ever been opened since it was built and they go all the way through from one side to the other aka (full basement). I did open the roof hatches last night and checked out the roof, seems solid on the seams front and back. Also figured out some of the switches on the panel and i can flip the old radio to play inside or the PA on top outside, so thats pretty cool.

Bus came from Forsyth, Monroe county. I live just to the north in Monticello.

I saw an ad for one in Forsyth the other day that had a wiring harness issue and was going for somewhere around $1K. It had the engine and trans I wanted and was going to buy it just for the swap. Sadly I didn't write down any info on it and when I went back and hit every auction site and CL I couldn't find it again. I would have jumped immediately until I realized it was in the city of Forsyth(many miles from me) and not Forsyth County, which is 3 miles from me.

Also I half a$$ measured her today right at 40" feet. I didn't want a big bus when i first started looking but those med size RE buses are way harder to find. It was hard to pass up for what i paid for it. The shop foreman told me the sister bus to the one i bought was sold the week before and the person thought they was bidding on mine and didn't realize they bought the FE instead. He also said that person was trying to get rid of it.
