I've got a bus I am interested in and am thinking I should try and find a local shop willing to inspect it for me before I bid. I will need to make it ~1,200 miles home before getting parked for conversion (and near mechanics I know).

I know it is a long shot, but before I just go pick one off of yelp reviews, I thought I would see if anyone here has a recommendation.

I would absolutely do it. I searched for a reputable diesel shop in Texas (I'm in Indiana) to inspect a bus I was seriously looking at, and that was money well spent. The inspection showed the bus did not have the engine that was advertised...and it was an engine that I definitely did not want. The 2nd bus we pursued, and ultimately bought, was taken to a local diesel shop for a formal state inspection before I took the plunge. I would definitely consider a good inspection to be part of the purchase price.
