I am swapping the t444e motor out of a short bus from a 1999 into a 1995. The Ecm in the 1999 is a 1 box system and the 1995 is a 3 box system. I’m trying to find some insight of converting from a 3 box Ecm to a 1 box. Has anyone had to do this an how much of a pain was rewiring the truck? Also is there a good place to find a wiring diagram for these trucks?

I know it can be done but no one has ever done a comprehensive how to on this site with that procedure.

Mostly as I understand it though is just strip all the 3 box harness out, remove the vpm and IDM. And 3box ECM and install a mounting bracket for the 1 box ECM over the 99 t444e engine and wire up the 1box harness as you would a normal install for a 1box. The 1 box normally is installed on the right side of the engine mine if floating above it in passenger side.

As for differences, they use the same gauge cluster, same OS on the ECM between 1 box and 3 box. So I believe just if it is plug and play but I cannot be 100% sure as I've not done this. Other claim to have and it worked out well for them.

If using an older 3 box t444e motor with a 1 box ECM you'll need god mode service max to flash the ECM to an older EFRC rating code to match the older t444e specs. It may work without doing this by may be required. Friends on year of t444e you have.

Ok thank you so much for the info. I’m pulling the motor on the 1999 single box Ecm tomorrow a going to get started on this swap. Hopefully converting to the single box Ecm isn’t so bad. I’ve heard the 3 box system is not able to be serviced anymore so hopefully this is a blessing in disguise going to the single box

3 boxes can be serviced still. The dealers only advertise parts for up to 15 years, so even the 1 boxes fall into that category.

I had a broken VPM and the dealer was able to get me a used VPM and reprogram it so they will still do it if they can get the parts or if you can find and provide them. I run a 3box.

Probably better to move the engine and harness and 1box together. Should be no incompatibility issues then.

I'd sell the 3box computers to someone here who would need them. There will be some one here needing one at some point. I've already needed a new VPM.
