Perhaps you were fantasying about the pretty woman on the old television commercials for St. Pauli Girl beer.

As far as being "tone deaf", don't let that stop you. I have a friend here who has no clue about notes on the guitar, yet he gets an enormous satisfaction when he plays in his rhythmic purveyance.

As I mentioned, the mere fact that you are making "music" on an instrument is what is of value. You do not need to perform for other people. The most important factor is to play a musical instrument.

Crazycal, you did learn to speak. In the same way, you can learn to express yourself with a musical instrument.

Please consider the amazing effect it can have to your well being.

Jeez Cal-I've seen 7 out of 10 of your choices!

My all time favorite. Frank Zappa. Saw him 5 times-have at least 50 of his albums. (Or whatever you call it nowadays when its on a phone-ipod thumbdrive etc.)

 
Ahhhhhh! Love Zappa's instrumentals. My favorite collection of his is the "Shut up and Play yer Guitar" box set. And another one simply entitled "Guitar". Here's one of his typically goofy songs with the requisite musicianship:

I love Zappa, wearing my Zappa plays Zappa t-shirt right now...

I feel that his work will be studied years from now the same way that Mozart and Bach have been... Incredible composer...
 
Nice guitar pic.

Ozzy's song, Crazy Train, is a great example of Randy Rhoad's guitar talent. Too bad Randy did not last long. He was great.
 






Here is my other mandolin on the left. It has an electrified bridge. I use a Seymour Duncan pickup booster pedal. It sounds great. The mandolin on the right is a friend's of mine.



Here is a video of when I sat in with a band. I used my auto wah wah pedal.

 
Some friends who used to get together weekly to jam. We did improvisational music.

Below are my acoustic instruments: an Alvarez which is probably about 10 years old, with an internal piezo pickup I had installed, a 1959 Gibson I inherited from my uncle, and a mountain dulcimer:



And below is my electric music cabinet. You can see my Fender Stratocaster in front. It's a Mexican strat with American electronics. In the cabinet I have a Fender 90 watt solid state amp with reverb, and a Marshall 100 watt acoustic amp with all kinds of cool features and effects. I use the Marshall as a sort of compact PA system. It has several inputs. In front of the Fender is my Digitech multi-effects pedal. It isn't the highest quality effects pedal, but the range of effects I can program into it is, for all intents and purposes, unlimited. I also have an ESP electric bass that is in it's case in the cabinet. It's nothing to look at really; I got it cheap thinking it would be fun to play around with, but have never really done much with it to date. On the top shelf is a couple toolboxes full of all kinds of cables, adapters, and a few other effects pedals, microphones, and a small mixer.



I have the amps and effects all wired up so all I have to do is plug in an extension chord, plug in my guitar, and I'm ready to rock! There is a collection of other guitars around the house that belong to my wife and kids, but I'm not going to round up all that stuff. My son has a pretty nice Blueridge auditorium sized acoustic guitar though.
 
I'll post a picture of a street musician I saw the other day. He was playing an accordion.
 
One of my favorite accordion styles is Cumbia music. The diatonic button accordion is used for that. They are quite different from regular accordions. Here is a video. The dancing girl will get you excited.

This next one is the most amazing accordion playing I have ever seen. It is by Victor Romanko. He must have started when he was three years old. He is using a chromatic button accordion. It is called a bandoneon.

Wow, Rudy. At first I thought: "oh man, how cheesy is this video"... but then I got into the groove and by the end I was thinking this is so fricking awesome! That guy is amazing! And the dancing girls were equally fantastic. Man, those Latinas have the whole "sexy" thing DOWN. :shock: :-D

Speaking of Cumbia music, these local Austin musicians are TOP RATE! I met the guitar player in the English style cap, Adrian Quesada (playing the Gibson ES 137, single cutaway, semi-hollow body guitar), who was a student (along with his wife) in the natural childbirth class my wife teaches. His band is so amazing. No accordion though, this is a different kind of Cumbia:

Rudy, I did like that quite a bit! Very spacey and electric-psychedelic. I was surprised to hear that coming from Funkadellics, seemed more like, I don't know, Robin Trower, or someone like that... Makes me want to play with my effects pedals. I think it's time to move my electric guitar rig out to the bus so I can jam out there in the driveway. Otherwise, I almost never have the chance to play electric in the house just because of family disruption with young kids, bedtimes, etc.
