My Poor Man's Cruise is Poorer than your Poor Man's Cruise

You know Grandpa always told me not to overthink it, I finished this water bottle and I started to throw it in the trash bag, my old knee was cussing at me and we're only about 20 miles into our 1000 mile trip, I noticed it was about the same size as the opening between my pedal and the fresh air vent and oh ya, worked surprisingly well. I used it for probably 500 miles, could add a little bit of air or take some out and put it back for different speed zones. Could tilt it a little left or right for about a five mph adjustment, and I could just tap it with my foot if I wanted it out in a hurry. Been looking at my different options for adding cruise this summer but this worked surprisingly well if your looking for temporary cruise control

Maybe a good idea to "overthink" this a bit more.

I am 100% certain this is dangerous, not a good idea at all.

Man my seat in combination with how I hold the pedal down just destroys my back. (I'm disabled from neck and back surgeries so I guess it's alot of that). I don't want no part of this though, I'd be dead for sure.
My bus has cruise but I'm too worried that something else will break if I dare use it.

A true "Dead Man's Throttle" if there ever was one. I hope your insurance agent isn't following you on here!
Inventive though...

Actual disability controls, designed for you and installed by a professional

of course not cheap

but much safer

Boo. Hoo. Dont do it then. I drove a tractor trailer in the late "70s that had a length of broomstick for cruise. To each their own.

Boo. Hoo?

I don't think anyone is worried about you hurting yourself but the folks that you are putting in danger, especially with a big rig. Makes you wonder how many fools are are on the highway.

Maybe it’s just me, but coming from a ten year stint at driving a truck for a living, that just looks DANGEROUS.

Years ago I had a job driving a Tow truck, Holmes Twin Boom with a sling. One hot afternoon I was called to an accident on the highway. When I get there traffic is flowing well and no wreck to be seen, just some emergency vehicles. It was flat farm country, and the highway had a gentle curve - and the driver of the F250 farmer truck had fallen asleep at the wheel, and went straight instead of following the curve. The truck plowed a 1455 foot path across the wheat field before it came to a stop on it's side in a low spot in the field. The driver was beat up but alive, and he told the cops that when the truck left the road and bounced through the ditch he was thrown to the passenger side and could not stop the truck. After I tipped the truck back onto it's wheels I opened the door to make sure it was in neutral and that's when I saw the paint stick wedged on the gas pedal from the lower edge of the dash. The most damage on the truck was in the cab from the driver bouncing around in there - dents in the roof, boot print on the speedo, bent 4 speed stick, etc.
Four days later he showed up at our tow lot, paid the bill, then got in that F250 and drove it away.

Well it’s not really “to each their own” when stupid actions have the ability to impact or kill others.
“70’s? did they even have cruise control back then?
Merry Christmas everyone.
Cheers

You could tie the steering wheel to the, I don't know, brake pedal. Then you're most of the way to "self-driving" bus. Make a sandwich or take a nap. :)

You should buy a hand adjustable Morse cable from any industrial supply company. They have a knob you can Pull out or turn clock wise And counter clockwise to adjust your speed and a push button in the middle of the knob to push in for quick release (safety first) install in dash run cable through firewall or floor and connect to throttle linkage. For electronic accelerator loop the cable back up through the floor directly under The top of accelerator pedal . Drill hole in top of pedal run cable through hole connect a cable stop with set screw to end of cable. This will allow peddle to slide up and down the cable when using your foot but will pull accelerator pedal Down when using the cable. You can also use this same method for parking brake so that all your wheels lock up if your parking on slippery or steep hills . I install this on all my 4x4 vehicles as a secondary park brake for safety when off-roading.

Use it. Our 98 Amtrans pleased me to no end when I realized it had cruise. Even short trips it makes more comfortable. Most of all I love to set the cruise and take a nap.

LOL

Reminds me of a story I heard as a young man.

A man had figured out how to roll over onto his left hip, crack open the driver's door and pee out the crack without having to stop. Had to be made up - right? :wink1:

Stuff like this makes me cringe- when an accident come up, enough of these skoolies being driven by unschooled drivers (clueless about airbrakes and air systems et al) the DOT will come crashing down on rv’s amd put them in the same Class and REGULATIONS AS A COMMERCIAL TRUCK. - as a result of unsafe and irresponsible (ignorance) drivers. Will doom it for everyone else.

WE used to do that at the old drive in theaters while parked.

Some people might be worried about getting something caught in the door.

However, I've always heard that its not wise to P..s into the wind.

In the Unstoppable Morgan YouTube channel she built her toilet into the drivers seat of her Bronco, can't help but wonder about how well it worked. She seemed really proud of it.
