NC Insurance as Bus

Just wanted to post some up to date, real info for anybody out there:

In North Carolina, I was able to get insurance through Progressive for my Bus-Titled Bus. Not titled as an RV yet.

750k in liability only (declined comp/collision), clean driving record, and the cost is about $450/year.

Needed this to get a plate for it in NC so I can drive it around to different places during the conversion (mechanic, body shop, etc)

I am currently working on getting it registered and Titled, insurance was not a challange for me but the NC DMV is notoriously difficult. some people have told me to register it as a commerical private vehicle. does that sound right to you?

Jolly Roger bus 223, how do I convert the title of a commercial schoolbus, currently titled in TN, to a "bus for personal use" here in NC? I would not really like to have it retitled as a RV/housecar, because I'm trying to keep my conversion super basic. Would it have to stay insured as commercial if not retitled RV, only retitled as the lesser class of "bus for personal use"? Thanks for any help!

both of my buses were simple with my local DMV.
registered as bus.

I know you said you don't want to title it as a house car, but it might not be too bad to do?

When we got ours titled as a house car we just had to tell the people in the tag office about it: like that we had food storage (a cooler), a sleeping area (some camping pads), running water (a couple buckets with a $15 battery powered pump to pull water from one to the other) and maybe a couple other things and they didn't seem worried about it. We came with pictures but they didn't ask to see them. This was in Fall of 2023 and I'd imagine how strict they are varies tag office to tag office.

We are insured with Farm Bureau as a RV, and they also didn't seem too concerned.
