Hey y'all.
My bus is leaking (pouring) out brake fluid, so right now it's not really safely drivable.
A shop quoted me approximately $1700 for the job, saying I needed new
-rear brake shoes
-axle seals
-wheel cylinders
-backing plate assembly(?)
I don't really trust the motives nor competence of the shop, they didn't mention anything about my brake lines, which I did my own investigation and found that was the largest leak in the system. The bus sat in the weather for years before my purchase and the brake lines are all rusty and I believe need to be replaced entirely. In fact, I think maybe I need to replace everything but my master cylinder. I'm not a mechanic though, and while a friend who is a mechanic said he'd help me do the brake job itself, he also said to call him when I have all the parts. So now that's what I'm working on.

So first question, this thing.

I cleaned off a little section that had a number printed under it.

I then searched that number online. I found this on ebay.

Is that the same thing?
Is that just for the parking brake, which appears to be working fine? It also appears to be leaking brake fluid, though slowly - you can see in the first picture that it's covered in moisture. That moisture is brake fluid.
Please edumacate, and thank you for your time.

From what I remember maxibrakes were air brakes so I dont think they are the same thing. JMHO

Hey chuck, thanks for the reply.
My braking system is definitely hydraulic. I do not have air brakes.

If the shop was talking a complete rebuild on the brake system then that would be a fair price but it doesnt sound that way. Have you looked for a service manual for your bus? If you can get one they normally have diagrams of the brkes and you friend should be able to indicate what parts are needed.

I've searched for a manual for my bus to no avail (1995 Ford B800 Body with Amtran Chassis).
Those other links look super useful to me! I am also pretty sure I have the Lucas Girling braking system. Thank you so much!

Found out that those canisters are in fact my parking brakes...
One leaks fluid, very slowly. It's damp. The other is actually not leaking.
These are on a separate hydraulic system from my primary brakes.
Going to replace my broken lines for starters, and see if I actually need anything else.
